Police say a woman has recanted her claim of being raped by a hitchhiker she picked up in Douglas County on Saturday. The investigation determined the woman's statement couldn't be supported and she then admitted making a false report of the sexual assault, according to a news release from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. The 32-year-old woman originally said she picked up a man who was hitchhiking while she was driving between Arcola and Mattoon Saturday afternoon. According to the sheriff's office, she said she had the man sit in her vehicle's back seat because the front was full packages. Then, she said, he put a rope around her neck and began to strangle her, then ordered her to stop in a location between two grain bins where the attack took place.

"A spurned lover whose cry of rape cost police coffers £10,000 was jailed for nine months yesterday. Belfast Crown Court heard that Lisha Tait cried rape after being given the "cold shoulder" in a Belfast nightclub by a man she had a previous liaison with. The 22-year-old, from Laurel Lodge in the Flush Gardens area of Lisburn, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. The charge relates to making a false report and two false written statements to police on dates between July 6 and August 15, 2013 claiming she had been raped. Crown prosecutor Simon Jenkins said the series of events began in the early hours of July 7 when police received a call from the Ambulance Service in relation to a distressed woman who claimed she had been raped outside the Odyssey complex in Belfast. After making the claim, Tait was taken to the Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Antrim, where she was examined."

Of the 90,427 forcible rapes reported in 2007, 40% were cleared by arrest or "exceptional means" (FBI, 2008d) with 23,307 of those being arrests (FBI, 2008b). Clearance of a report by exceptional means occurs when the known suspect dies before an arrest is made, when the victim refuses to provide the information or assistance necessary to follow an investigation through to an arrest, or when the known suspect is being held in another jurisdiction for a different crime and extradition is denied. In order to clear a case by exceptional means, the officers must have an identified suspect, know where he can be found, and have enough evidence for a legal arrest.

"A woman admitted Monday to fabricating a report of a sexual assault in an unincorporated portion of Santa Ana, authorities said. A day after telling Orange County Sheriff's Department officials that she had been grabbed from behind, dragged to a dirt lot and sexually assaulted in the 18000 block of Ervin Street, the woman admitted to deputies that she had made up the report, said Jim Amormino, a Sheriff's Department spokesman. Sheriff's deputies Monday contacted the woman, who they did not identify, on an unrelated matter when she admitted to the false report, Amormino said. The woman was admitted into a hospital for a 72-hour mental-health hold, Amormino added."

The Coalition Against Violence is commending the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary for its handling of a false complaint of sexual assault near the Fluvarium in St. John's. Police sent out an alert about a male suspect in connection with the alleged assault after a woman reported the incident last weekend. However, RNC Const. Steve Curnew said Wednesday that investigating officers determined the assault never happened. Coalition spokesperson Connie Pike said police acted accordingly, given the situation.

A 75-year-old yoga teacher, who was accused of raping his disciple for almost an year on the pretext of marrying her, has been acquitted by a Delhi court after the complainant retracted, saying she had filed a false complaint. Additional Sessions Judge Nivedita Anil Sharma acquitted the senior citizen, a resident of west Delhi while observing that the victim had turned hostile and deposed that the accused had never established physical relations with her or promised marriage. "The prosecutrix (girl), has not deposed an iota of evidence of her being raped at all. She has not even mentioned the word 'rape' or any other offence in her evidence nor has deposed anything incriminating against the accused," the court said. The girl deposed in the court that she implicated the man at the behest of another woman named Reena, the whereabouts of who were not known to the police.

For Caleb Warner, weekends still revolve around sports and hanging out with his friends. But life hasn't been so carefree in the four years since he met a young woman. "We met at a party," Warner told America Tonight. "And, I don't know, we just kinda made eye contact. And, you know, one thing led to another." On Dec. 13, 2009, Warner, then a junior at the University of North Dakota, attended a party thrown by his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. There, he met a freshman who caught his eye. They played beer pong in the basement of the fraternity house, later making out. Soon after that, they would head into a side room to have sex. When they were done, Warner says they exchanged numbers and went their separate ways. "I liked her," Warner said. "She was, she was fun. She was a fun person to hang out with."

A FALSE claim of rape by a Ramsgate teenager was "a cry for help" according to her mother. The 19-year-old made the allegation that she had been a victim of sexual assault in Boundary Park at 2am last Friday. Police cordoned off the park and had forensic officers on the scene following the claim and put out an appeal to find the "suspect," described as aged between 40 and 45, 6ft tall, of large build and with wrinkles on his face, particularly around the cheeks. But the following evening police said they were no longer appealing for information and revealed the woman who had made the allegation had been formally cautioned for wasting police time.

A 17-year-old girl is expected to be charged with falsifying a police report after investigators say she lied about being abducted and sexually assaulted. According to WISN-TV, the girl initially stated on Sept. 24 she was jogging on Koval Road east of Lyndon Station when she was forced into a silver SUV, taken to a wooded area and sexually assaulted. She said she was taken back to her original location. Investigators said the girl made inconsistent statements in follow-up interviews and admitted Tuesday she made up the story so she wouldn't get in trouble for coming home late after meeting with a boy. The case is one of four cases in Juneau and Sauk counties prompting officials to caution residents about attempted abductions.

On a summer day in 1980, 19-year-old Andre Davis stepped off a train 125 miles south of his native Chicago. He expected his visit would last the summer. Fran Keller was sentenced to 48 years in prison for allegedly sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl, Christy Chaviers, who in 1991 was an infrequent drop-in at the home-based daycare Fran and her husband Dan Keller ran out of their Oak Hill home. (Dan was also convicted and sentenced to 48 years. The current appeal has been filed on Fran's behalf, but will impact Dan's conviction as well.) After a day in care at the Kellers' home that summer Chrsity told her mother, Suzanne Stratton, that Dan Keller spanked her. That allegation quickly morphed into an allegation of sexual abuse - and then again, into wilder allegations of abuse perpetrated by the middle-aged couple on Chaviers and two other children who were also drop-in clients and whose parents were friendly with Stratton. By the fall, the allegations turned fantastical: The Kellers had taken the kids on plane rides to Mexico, subjected them to satanic bone-replacing rituals, killed animals and babies - allegations that led Christy's therapist, then Donna David Campbell, to conclude Christy had been a victim of "ritual abuse."

"State police have charged a western Pennsylvania woman with putting child pornography on a computer in an unsuccessful effort to frame her estranged husband. Online court records don't list an attorney for 42-year-old Meri Jane Woods, of Cherry Hill Township, who also doesn't have a listed phone. Troopers from Indiana, Pa. say she started the investigation when she came to their barracks on Aug. 14 to report her husband sexually abused children and put images of same on their home computer. Police investigated and determined the images were put on the computer Aug. 11 but that Woods' husband left the residence July 23. Woods is charged with a felony count of sexual abuse of children for possessing a computer with the images on it, and 40 counts of lying about alleged abuse incidents involving her husband."

"KINGSPORT, TN (WJHL) - The Sullivan County Sheriff's Office says a Kingsport woman is behind bars after she admitted to making a false rape claim.  Wednesday, deputies received a call of a rape at a home on Poplar Grove Road in Kingsport. When officers arrived, they found broken glass inside the home and a torn shower curtain. Amanda Rowland, 36, told authorities someone entered her home while she was in the shower and proceeded to rape her. Rowland also told investigators that her ex-boyfriend received text messages saying that she was going to be raped. She was taken to the hospital. After interviewing Rowland's ex-boyfriend, investigators found out he had been receiving text messages concerning the rape for the last couple of days from different phone numbers. He told police that he advised his ex to leave the home."
