A Missouri man who spent three decades in prison for rape he didn't commit is now a free man. 49 year old Robert Nelson was convicted in 1984 of rape, sodomy and robbery. He was identified by the rape victim as one of the men involved in the crime. But after the Midwest Innocence Project got involved, Nelson's DNA was tested and showed that he was not the perpetrator.

A disgruntled man is accused of filing a false police report about a rape threat and possible hostage situation that shut down a Gresham neighborhood early Monday morning. Police said the report came in around 4:15 a.m. The caller said an armed man ordered him out of his apartment at gunpoint and threatened to rape his girlfriend. Police prepared for a possible standoff and surrounded a complex on Southeast 182nd Avenue near Stark Street, shutting down roads in the area for several blocks.

A Cobb Superior Court judge Friday found that Mye Brindle, a former housekeeper of Waffle House Chairman Joe Rogers, violated his privacy when she unlawfully recorded video of them engaging in a sex act at his home. Rogers' attorneys hope the findings result in the dismissal of a sexual abuse case Brindle brought against Rogers. For the past nine months, attorneys for Rogers have tried to gather more information about Brindle's recording and whether her own lawyers, David Cohen and John Butters, were involved in helping to make it. Cobb Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard found that in June 2012, Cohe and Butters sent their client, Brindle, to a private investigator's office, who ordered Brindle a "spy camera," which she used to make a video in Roger's bedroom without his consent.

A South Africa man will leave jail on Wednesday after having spent 10 years behind bars because his daughter falsely accused him of rape. Cedric Shezi was arrested soon after his daughter, Pinky Dube, accused him of the horrible crime and he received a life sentence after being convicted of two counts of rape in 2005. Dube will be waiting to see him when he is released.

A WOMAN has been interviewed by police after admitting making a false allegation of rape. The 26-year-old claimed she was leaving the ground-floor level of the Wellington Square shopping centre car park in Stockton-on-Tees last week when a man approached her from behind and sexually assaulted her. Police launched a media appeal for information and arrested, and bailed, a 22-year-old man in connection with the incident. However, the woman then admitted she had made a false allegation. The man has now been released with no further action to be taken. Police have passed the file for the case on to the Crown Prosecution Service, who will decide whether to prosecute the woman.

A JEALOUS boyfriend told his girlfriend to make up a rape allegation against the man she had been unfaithful with, a court heard. The claim led to alleged victim Zabir Khan being arrested on suspicion of rape, interviewed and locked up in a police cell. He also had intimate swabs taken. The claim was made by 23-year-old Husen Patel's girlfriend, Jade Leech, after Patel punched her in the face when he found out she had been unfaithful with Mr Khan, her cousin's boyfriend, Bolton Crown Court heard.

Texas resident Steven Phillips has had a rough 30 years. In 2009, after 24 years in prison, Phillips was declared innocent of the sexual assault charges that landed him behind bars. DNA evidence showed that sexual offender Sydney Alvin Goodyear, not Phillips, had committed the offenses he was in prison for. His time in jail wrecked much of his life. Phillips spent almost three decades locked up, waiting to for the world to believe his claim of innocence. He and his wife divorced in 1992, 10 years after his sentence began. Phillips missed out on raising his child that was due the same year he was incarcerated.

Serving a lengthy prison sentence for a rape he didn't commit, Robert E. Nelson asked for DNA testing to prove his innocence. Twice since 2009, he was turned down. In late 2011, Jackson County prosecutors working through cold cases sought testing for a very different reason: to find Nelson's accomplice. A few months later, as prosecutors were nearly finished with their testing, a judge approved Nelson's newest request.

A man who may be awarded millions after being wrongfully imprisoned for 27 years is still waiting for a payout, living in a basement suite on old age security and a $49 per month pension cheque. Ivan Henry's civil case has been plagued with delays and is now slated to be heard in September 2014, some five years after Henry, now 66, was let out of jail. "They told us 2012, they told us 2013, and now we're going to 2014," said Tanya Olivares, one of Ivan Henry's daughters. "What's to say that it's not going to be 2017?"

This week's feature tells the story of John Kinsel, a man who will spend the rest of his life locked up at Angola Prison for a crime his accuser has since said he didn't commit. Alyssa Medlin testified as a nine-year-old that Kinsel -- her mother's boyfriend -- had raped her for years. The girl's family didn't believe Medlin, a child with a history of lying. One of her friends had compelling evidence that Medlin had made it all up. But this story wasn't told during the shoddy investigation, and Kinsel was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

A 10-year-old girl asked a jury to believe her claim that she had been raped by a man during a 2011 sleepover even though, the child frankly admitted, she had lied repeatedly in the past about claims that he threatened her life in the assault.

Citing procedural roadblocks in federal law, a federal appeals court panel has ruled it can have no say on whether a man serving life in prison for raping a girl in Jefferson Parish should get a new trial since the victim recanted her claims that the man sexually abused her in the 1990s.

As a conservative, I can appreciate certain Republicans' lack of tact in discussing certain topics. I hate political correctness. But there is a pretty large and, honestly, fair consensus that Republican officials hoping for a future should never, ever, dear God, never talk about rape. That's a bandwagon I can happily jump on. I am not a Republican official, however, so I am going to talk about rape; in particular, false accusations thereof. A Surrey man served four years in jail for a sex assault he may not have committed due to what the criminal justice branch is calling "a miscarriage of justice." Gurdev Singh Dhillon was alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman in 2004 and was sentenced to four years in jail in 2005. Appeals to both sentence and conviction were dismissed in 2006. However, in 2011, Crown counsel learned of the existence of material evidence that had not been disclosed by police.

Three women were paid to falsely claim in videotaped interviews that they had sex for money with U.S. Senator Robert Menendez in the Dominican Republic, a spokesman for the police said today. The women, whose claims generated media attention in the United States, were hired by a Dominican attorney to make the videotaped statements, spokesman Maximo Baez told reporters. Two of the women received about $425 and the other was paid about $300, he said. Authorities are seeking to interrogate the attorney, Melanio Figueroa, about the payments and have not determined his motive or whether he was in turn paid by someone else to set up the interviews, Baez said.

A man was arrested after a 78-year-old Limpopo pensioner reported that she had allegedly been raped. After identifying a suspect 26 years younger than the complainant, the police pounced. But hours later, police released the 52-year-old man from custody and dropped the rape case. Police have now charged the septuagenarian from Nkowankowa township outside Tzaneen with perjury. Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said she had lied about the rape. Police investigations seemed to indicate that the pensioner had fabricated the rape allegation after the man spurned her advances.

An 18-year-old Venetia woman is facing perjury charges after investigators said she lied about being raped in the parking lot of the South Park wave pool last year. According to the criminal complaint, Katelyn Webster told authorities she raped by Matthew Folino while sitting in the pool's parking lot in June 2012. Webster told police that Folino put his hands around her neck to hold her down. There were marks on her neck to validate her story.

The 9,389 days Anthony Caravella wrongfully spent in prison still haunt him, but he was relieved Tuesday that two former police officers who put him away are finally being held accountable. Jurors decided that William Mantesta and George Pierson framed Caravella, then a mentally challenged 15 year old, for the 1983 rape and murder of a Miramar woman and should pay him $7 million for the close to 26 years he spent in prison.

A 20-year-old North Dakota State University student appeared in court Thursday after police say she made a false sexual assault report late Sunday night. Mary Gullickson pleaded guilty to her misdemeanor charges of providing false information to law enforcement and received a one-year suspended sentence along with a year of supervised probation. Police say Gullickson was involved in a rape fantasy she set up with another man on Craigslist, and that her boyfriend forced to her to make the bogus claim after he found out. Cass County prosecutors say Gullickson will also have to cover the costs of the rape investigation.

Only 10 On Your Side questioned Hampton's top cop about evidence that put an innocent man behind bars. Commonwealth's Attorney Anton Bell did not hold the office when a jury convicted Johnathon Montgomery of sexual assault, but explained the case in an exclusive interview with WAVY.com Wednesday. Elizabeth Coast originally testified Montgomery raped her when she was 10 years old and he was 14, but later admitted she made up the story. Montgomery spent four years in prison before Coast's confession.
