The Knowledge Sharing Place - LiveBinders - 0 views

  •
If you're like us, you've used 'creative' tactics to keep track of all these links either through email, word documents or endless lists in your browser bookmarks folder. It is hard to put a bunch of links together in any meaningful format. And sharing a group of URLs is cumbersome for everyone - the sender and the receiver. Have you ever looked through your bookmarks list and forgotten what they are all for? We created LiveBinders so that you could do with digital information what you do with the papers on your desk - organize them into nice containers - like 3-ring binders on your shelf. At LiveBinders we welcome you to use not just one binder, but as many binders as you need to help organize the stuff you collect and share over the internet.

Web 2.0 That Works: Marzano & Web 2.0 - 0 views

  •
In this day of high-stakes testing and frequent complaints from teachers that they "don't have time to use technology" in the classroom, this wiki seeks to bridge the gap to help teachers see that technology doesn't have to be an add-on that distracts them from focusing on the curriculum. Rather than accepting an either/or mentality, we can begin to connect technology to the accepted "best practices" that our districts expect to see in our classrooms. Readers and contributors will learn and share information about specific Web 2.0 tools that can be used by teachers, and strategies that can be used with those tools that align with and support research-based effective instructional methods. Reference will be made to specific instructional strategies and a variety of examples will be shared covering all content areas from K-12 to college/university levels. This wiki is an information resource as well as an interactive space where readers can add their own insights and strategies.

SimplyBox - Think Inside the Box - 0 views

  •
As you surf the Web, you constantly find information/content that you would like to keep. Bookmarks and e-mail force you to keep entire web pages. And as you keep more pages, the harder it is to find them later. SimplyBox's unique patent pending technology allows you to capture and keep just the parts of the page that you want: a sentence, a picture, a paragraph you decide. Each part of the page that you capture is an Item. A collection of Items is a Box. You can have Boxes on any subject/category you want: recipes box, funny jokes box, stocks box, etc. Items and Boxes are more visual and flexible to organize than lists of bookmarks, URLs, or e-mails. And sharing it with friends/colleagues becomes a very quick, dynamic, and fun exercise.

eLearn: Research Papers - The Peaks and Valleys of Online Professional Development - 1 views

  • The key to successful online learning is what Gilroy calls the "social space" or "community of practice" (CoP)—an environment where teachers generate ideas and build knowledge and expertise through collaboration. Online communities go beyond superficial exchanges to create a space where teachers share and benefit from each other's expertise, jointly committed to developing better practices
  • Online discussion allowed me, and in many cases forced me, to rethink how I teach and what I teach.
  • Most participants characterized the discussion forum as a good format to ask questions and respond to each other, allowing for interaction among a broad range of participants and the ability to draw upon resources of others in the group
  • ...1 more annotation...
  • With communication having a degree of remoteness, teachers have a sense of anonymity, which makes some hesitant teachers more comfortable in expressing their struggles. This is called the "strength of weak ties"
  •
"Online professional development (PD) fits today's fast changing K-12 educational environment where demands on teachers and re-certification require teachers to continually learn new and challenging content and pedagogy. Online professional development has the benefit of supporting teachers in their daily practice and connecting them with a network of like-minded professionals so that they can learn and share with each other."

Assessment Rubrics - 0 views

  •
An awesome collection of rubrics by Kathy Schrock at Discovery Education.
  •
Now that we are using the Internet in the classroom to support instruction, it is important the area of assessment be addressed. One usable method for teachers is to provide a rubric for student use and for both formative and summative assessment purposes. Another is to provide some type of graphic organizer. Below you will find a collection of assessment rubrics and graphic organizers that may be helpful to you as you design your own. Let me know if you have one you would like to share! A book dealing with both the theoretical and practical design of rubrics is the ASCD publication, Assessing Student Outcomes: Performance Assessment Using the Dimensions of Learning Model.

PA Institute for Instructional Coaching: October 2010 - 0 views

  •
"Becoming accustomed as a coach to not having your own classroom or your own students was probably challenging. I am sure, however, you quickly engaged in conversations with your colleagues about offering to demonstrate or co-teach some lessons to those teachers willing to share their students with you. Although alien at first, I'll bet it was very rewarding to work with students again and feel that great "high" that a teacher feels when the lesson worked well. "
