Built for tweens, Everloop is the next step beyond social networking, to what we call social looping. Tweens really shouldn't be on open, social networks. PennTeacher is the official web site for the Pennsylvania eLearning for Educators program. This program is part of a collaborative effort between the departments of education and the public broadcasting stations in ten states. The program is funded by a U.S. Department of Education Ready to Teach grant.
The purpose of this course is to provide "Just in Time" training through an online interface for K-12 educators based on the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers (NETS-T). These standards are the basic technology skills every educator should possess. In the process, educators will develop their own skills and discover what students need in order to meet the NETS for Students, as well as the new MMC Online Experience requirement. Are iPods in the classroom a distraction? Perhaps. Pencils - now those are real distractions - always having to sharpen them, kids throw them, they write inappropriate notes with them, they can use them to cheat, they poke each other with them, they get pencil lead stuck in their fingers, they steal them, etc. I think we should ban 'em. Now, am I trying to convince everyone to run out and buy ipods for all students? No, I'm not. I am suggesting, however, that they're worth exploring. CELLS alive! represents 30 years of capturing film and computer-enhanced images of living cells and organisms for education and medical research. The site has been available continuously and updated annually since May of 1994 and now hosts over 4 million visitors a year. All text, images, and layout are provided by me, Jim Sullivan (resumé) shown here with Boo and Bella. Every effort has been made to minimize errors or typos, but any you find on these pages are my doing as well.
