  •
Heavy Duty Wheelchair There are many ways in which a person with disabilities and physical mobility issues can get from A to B in this day and age. But bay far the most common method of personal transportation is the humble wheel chair. They come in many different designs as well as sizes, with light, heavy or miedium weighted devices available for specific uses and to cater for the indidual needs of the user. So in this News we'll take a brief look at heavy duty wheelchairs and where they are needed most. This is not an in-depth look, but just an overview with a view to expanding upon this subject at a later date. Buy online Heavy Duty wheelchair for handicapped and disabled at lowest price and cheap cost in india from wheelchair india online shopping store of Heavy Duty wheelchair manufacturer, distributor, dealer and supplier of variety of Karma Heavy Duty wheelchair at low price in india for handicapped and disability product like Karma Heavy Duty Wheelchair. Durability Of course the obvious use for heavy duty wheelchairs are for those users who have become very overweight or obese. This often happens directly due to the lack of exercise that their conditions bring about as it is sometimes simply not possible to engage in any form of meaningful exercise depending upon the severity of the physical handicap suffered by the user. In this case, then a heavy chassis and running gear are needed to cope with the extra weight of the user so that they can still get about in safety and comfort that the more lightweight wheelchairs would not be able to fulfill sufficiently. Strengthening The additional bracing and strengthening that is needed for these types of chairs comes with the trade off that they are in themselves much heavier than regular or lightweight models and are therefore that much more difficult to push around. For this reason, the fitter and stronger helpers are required to assist for safety reasons. In some cases, when a wheelchair use

Wheelchair : Handicap Products: Benefit Of Reclining Wheelchair - 0 views

  •
For people who spend the majority of their days sitting in standard wheelchairs or lying in beds, pressure sores are a very probable reality. Yet they don't have to be, thanks to assistive technology like tilt or recline wheelchairs that help distribute pressure to other parts of the body. While pressure relief is the main objective to using either a tilt wheelchair or a recline wheelchair, each has its unique qualities that help with posture. (Even though some chairs come with both tilt and recline options, for clarity purposes, they will be addressed as two separate seating systems.) "Obviously, a tilt wheelchair does a better job of providing postural stability by not changing any of the angles of the knee and hip, while recliners allow the pelvis and hips to move through approximately 90 degrees of motion. Both seating systems have their own specific functions," noted David Kreutz, PT, seating specialist at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta. Reclining wheelchairs move the body from a flexed position to an extended position, making the chairs more likely to elicit a spastic response in the user. Because tilt and recline chairs use gravity to their advantage and come with head rests, patients who have poor head, neck and trunk control may benefit from the stability and balance they provide. When in tilt or recline, gravity helps the patient improve balance and head control. Once a tilt chair is prescribed for a patient, it is important to teach the caregivers how to use the tilt function and position the patient correctly. If a patient is cognitively intact, it is also important to teach that individual how he or she should be positioned in the chair, to be able to instruct caregivers. Candidates who would be suited for a recliner chair are those who cannot achieve a 90-degree hip-to-back angle when sitting. For example, patients who have hip precautions following total hip replacement surgery, patients who have had cardiac surgery and might develop

Electric Wheelchair For Increased Independence - 0 views

  •
Electric wheelchair is a chair fitted with wheels. The device comes in variations allowing either manual propulsion by the seated occupant turning the rear wheels by hand, or electric propulsion by motors. There are often handles behind the seat to allow for different individuals to push. Electric Wheelchairs are used by people for whom walking is difficult or impossible due to illness, injury, or disability. Disabled People who have difficulty sitting and walking often make use of a wheelbench. A basic manual wheelchair incorporates a seat, foot rests and four wheels: two, caster wheels at the front and two large wheels at the back. The two larger wheels in the back usually have handrims; two metal or plastic circles. Electric wheelchairs are propelled by a motor and battery. They are very sophisticated. They are operated with a joy stick or push buttons. Some electric wheelchairs use advanced technology and can climb up stairs, move across gravel and even raise up to give access to high shelves. Electric wheelchairs need strong frames to support the motor and battery so they are very heavy and also quite expensive. People with spinal cord injuries face similar decisions. Often a person with a spinal cord injury will use a motorized wheelchair, even though they are physically capable of using a manual chair. They don't do this because they are lazy. They do this to be more efficient with their energy reserves. People with spinal cord injuries often choose motorized wheelchairs to preserve their physical energy, so that they can complete the work. Sometimes need to save on physical energy so that have some allowance left over for intellectual or emotional pursuits. Traces of the past: Computer algorithm able to 'read' memories - 0 views

  • To explore how such memories are recorded, the researchers showed ten volunteers three short films and asked them to memorise what they saw. The films were very simple, sharing a number of similar features - all included a woman carrying out an everyday task in a typical urban street, and each film was the same length, seven seconds long. For example, one film showed a woman drinking coffee from a paper cup in the street before discarding the cup in a litter bin; another film showed a (different) woman posting a letter. The volunteers were then asked to recall each of the films in turn whilst inside an fMRI scanner, which records brain activity by measuring changes in blood flow within the brain. A computer algorithm then studied the patterns and had to identify which film the volunteer was recalling purely by looking at the pattern of their brain activity. The results are published in the journal Current Biology. "The algorithm was able to predict correctly which of the three films the volunteer was recalling significantly above what would be expected by chance," explains Martin Chadwick, lead author of the study. "This suggests that our memories are recorded in a regular pattern." Although a whole network of brain areas support memory, the researchers focused their study on the medial temporal lobe, an area deep within the brain believed to be most heavily involved in episodic memory. It includes the hippocampus - an area which Professor Maguire and colleagues have studied extensively in the past. They found that the key areas involved in recording the memories were the hippocampus and its immediate neighbours. However, the computer algorithm performed best when analysing activity in the hippocampus itself, suggesting that this is the most important region for recording episodic memories. In particular, three areas of the hippocampus - the rear right and the front left and front right areas - seemed to be involved consistently across all participants. The rear right area had been implicated in the earlier study, further enforcing the idea that this is where spatial information is recorded. However, it is still not clear what role the front two regions play.
  •
Computer programs have been able to predict which of three short films a person is thinking about, just by looking at their brain activity. The research, conducted by scientists at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Neuroimaging at UCL (University College London), provides further insight into how our memories are recorded.

Why It's Important To Eat Whole Grains | Pure Edge Nutrition - 0 views

  •
Whole grains can have a powerful impact on your health! Start shaping up for fall by adding a variety of whole grains to your diet. Since your body absorbs the nutrients from food easier than from vitamins, it's important to eat the foods with the most antioxidants. Here's how you can know the differences of the everyday grains we eat, and to get the most benefits from tasty whole grains! Why Are Whole Grains Good For You?Whole grains are loaded with essential vitamins and nutrients that our bodies need. Whole grains contain protein, fiber, B vitamins, antioxidants, iron, zinc, copper, and magnesium. Due to this, whole grains have been shown to prevent many types of illness including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and cancer. Whole grains are linked to excellent amounts of fiber. Whole wheat contains the most fiber and brown rice has the least. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that diets with whole grains that are low in fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol reduce heart disease and cancers. This applies to whole grain foods with at least 51% of whole grain ingredients. Shockingly enough, only 10% of Americans get enough whole grains a day. It's best to incorporate at least three serving's worth.Know the Difference Between 100% Whole Grains and 100% WheatA whole grain is the bran, germ, and endosperm of a grain. The most important thing is that all parts of the grain are still intact and in a healthy proportion. It gets tricky when you're at the grocery store with tons of options in front of you. Remember to steer clear of anything that's refined or processed. Similar names like "multigrain, 100% wheat, organic, pumpernickel, bran, and stone ground" are not necessarily whole grain! Especially beware of "100% wheat" bread. Why? Unfortunately, manufacturers strip the outermost later of bran off the wheat kernel and use refined wheat flour with molasses to fill it. Sadly this product does not count as 100% whole grain bread! You can

Wheelchair : Handicap Products: Basic Wheelchair For All Handicapped Person - 0 views

  •
A Manual Wheelchair incorporates a seat, foot rests and four wheels: two, caster

wheels at the front and two large wheels at the back. The two larger wheels in the

back usually have handrims; two metal or plastic circles approximately 3/4" thick.

The handrims have a diameter normally only slightly smaller than the wheels they

are attached to. Most wheelchairs have two push handles at the top of the back to

allow for manual propulsion by a second person.
Other varieties of wheelchair are often variations on this basic design, but can be

highly customised for the user's needs. Such customisations may encompass the seat

dimensions, height, seat angle (also called seat dump or squeeze), footrests, leg

rests, front caster outriggers, adjustable backrests and controls.
