    One archive utility to rule them all. You no longer need a separate program for ZIP, RAR, ACE, 7-ZIP, TAR files and so on, IZArc can handle ALL of them. Basically this unpacker/archiver gives you everything you get with other popular archivers (ex. Winzip, Winrar etc.) but with additional features and support for a huge number of archive formats. It can decompress archived folders in over 40 formats. It supports pretty much every format you're likely to come across. There is something else, you can also use the IZArc utility to open CD image files like ISO, BIN, CDI and NRG. Do you know of any other free archiver that can do that? Note: When installing IZArc make sure to uncheck the "recommended" option to install PalTalk.

    After the Deadline is a free tool for checking your spelling and grammar while writing on the web. You can use After the Deadline as a stand alone tool at Polish My Writing where you can check your text for  errors before posting it to the web in a blog post or comment. But the real utility of After the Deadline is found in the Firefox and Chrome extensions they produce. Install the Firefox or Chrome extension to have After the Deadline check your writing and make correction suggestions before you publish to the web.  If you use WordPress to self-host your blog or your students' blogs, you may be interested in the After the Deadline WordPress plug-in. If you're an Open Office user, After the Deadline has an extension for you too.  Applications for Education If you have students writing on the web, After the Deadline could help them make their writings better before they hit "publish" on their next blog post or comment.

  • Never before has it been more possible for educators to put instruction front and center of learning space design (i.e. physical classrooms and virtual spaces) than now.
  • Never before has collaboration with students and peers and with the world been more possible than now. Yet we still educate with strict control of space. It seems ridiculous even to think of learning spaces as confined now that students can connect with the world and glean content from everywhere.
  • As educators, we don't want to focus on developing test takers and rote repeaters of information; we aim to develop individuals who can think for themselves, find new information, work with others toward a unified goal, and utilize all resources available to them in their endeavors.
