[Video] HootSuite Tutorial 2012 - Using RSS Feeds with HootSuite | DennDennMedia - 4 views

  • You can find this feature by clicking on “Settings” (gear icon) in the HootSuite dashboard and selecting “RSS/Atom”. Clicking the plus sign will allow you to enter your feed URL and set the parameters of how RSS feed items get posted to your social networks.
  • One cool feature of using RSS feeds with HootSuite is that it allows you to prepend your social media updates with text. That means you can automatically have “New Post” or “Update” inserted in front of your article title. You can take the possibilities with this anywhere. Perhaps you have a hashtag associated with your website. With this feature, you will be able to automatically have that hashtag prepended in your post.
  • Once you click “Save Feed” you will be all ready to go. Next time you post an article on your blog or website, wait a few hours and check your sent messages in HootSuite. You will see that your blog title and a link are automatically sent to the social network that you designated. This means you should be very careful when creating titles for your articles. You want to be concise and favor keywords at the beginning of the article title (you should be doing this for SEO purposes anyway).

  • After that you will be asked how often to check for feed items. This all depends on how many articles you publish per day. A blogger who posts multiple articles a day may want to set the frequency to 3 hours or less.
  • After going to Settings > RSS/Atom and then clicking the plus sign, you will be presented with a box that will prompt you to fill in several parameters. HootSuite offers you the ability to control how often your feed is checked for new posts, how many new posts to send at a time, and prepended text for your post.

[Video] HootSuite Tutorial 2012 - Connecting Instagram, YouTube, and Tumblr Using the A... - 10 views

  • If you watched my last HootSuite Tutorial, you should already be pretty well versed in adding social media accounts. But what about those other “smaller” social networks such as Instagram, YouTube, and Tumblr?
  • In order to manage those accounts with HootSuite, you must use the App directory. If you go to your HootSuite Dashboard, hover over the wrench icon (tools), and then click “App Directory”, you’ll be able to add several third party apps that allow integration into HootSuite.

UPDATE 9/18/2012 – HootSuite Changes access to the App Directory
  • I noticed that you now have a puzzle piece icon on the left bar in HootSuite. This will allow you to access the App Directory without having to navigate through the settings menu.

Turn an Old Computer into a Networked Backup, Streaming, or Torrenting Machine with Fre... - 15 views

  •
At its most basic, Network attached storage, or NAS, is a great way to share files on your local network. But it's also a perfect solution for backing up your computers, streaming media across your home network, or even torrenting files to a central server. If you have an aging computer lying around, you can turn it into a NAS for for free with the open-source FreeNAS operating system.

How to create a custom Facebook Landing Page in 5 minutes or less - Social Media - 21 views

  •
There are a variety of reasons why Red Bull has over 20 million Facebook fans, but one that surfaces to the top is their unapologetic "Like our Page, hint, hint" custom landing greeting. And while Red Bull has a budget larger than most of us, that doesn't mean we're cut out of the custom landing page party. Thanks to a fantastic WordPress plugin and a bit of copy/paste inside Facebook, you can have a custom landing page up and running within 5 minutes.

Eeepc & touch panel - 9 views

  •
Tonight I'll show you how to add a touch screen for less than 50 € to your precious. This may be an EeePC or another laptop or even an LCD screen, the possibilities are endless. The only challenge is:- the ability to disassemble the entire case out of the computer. And when I say completely, you'll see that I'm serious here soon!- To have enough room in the case to house the controller. It is a small 52 * 23mm electronic card, a little less than 5mm thick. In an EeePC 1000H, it goes very well, as you'll see.

How to Set up a Facebook Custom iFrame Landing Page Application - 10 views

  •
Facebook recently announced that they would be discontinuing their support of the Static FBML app in favor of iframes. From a marketing perceptive this is actually some great news as FBML was pretty restrictive on what was and wasn't allowed within Facebook. I decided to investigate how much of pain is involved in setting up a custom tab on Facebook using an iframe. As it turns out, it's actually not to difficult.

Make Your Site More Likable with Facebook « Atlanta Jones - 6 views

  •
One of the first steps to making all this work, is to create a Facebook App that will serve as the main unique identifier for your site. All your pages will reference this app's ID to tie them all together. And in addition, anyone you add as an administrator of that app will have the ability to view analytics (what Facebook calls "Insights").

Media Streaming with Windows 7 - Engineering Windows 7 - Site Home - MSDN Blogs - 6 views

  •
We made it much simpler to configure media streaming. Before Windows 7, media streaming features were focused on media enthusiasts. To improve the setup experience, media streaming has been integrated with the new HomeGroup feature so in a typical home network configuration, media streaming is enabled and works by default. There is also a new "Stream" menu prominently displayed in the Window Media Player user interface (see figure below) that exposes simple scenario-based configuration options.
