intermediate vocabulary double meanings matching fill in the blank - 4 views

  •
The students see many objects and are given a list of names which they should match with their pictures. The names of the objects have more than one meaning. Students are then given sentences where they are going to use the words in other meanings. They can use either logic or dictionary to find different meanings for these names which will fit in the sentences. This activity will work effectively both in the classroom and outside the classroom. It can also be assigned for individual and group work. My students were really interested in the activity. They asked each other, worked collaboratively, also used dictionary and sometimes asked for my help. The output was productive as in the end students remembered all the words.

beginner motion words flashcards vocabulary - 2 views

  •
The activity consists of flashcards. Below the pictures there are some words. The teacher can cut the pictures and the words and ask the students to find the corresponding pictures and words. Teachers can assign it as a group or an individual work. This activity is more suitable for class work. I gave this activity to my daughter and she was interested in it. She asked me to give her more activities like that. So, I decided to give such activities to my beginner group students.

podcast with support pack elementary listening reading cohesive order of sentences vocabulary taking notes - 4 views

  •
The PDF file includes a great range of various exercises. This activity is very useful as students learn to read and write while they are listening. Students need to read through the questions in the exercises in the practice materials before listening to the podcast. While they're scanning the text they will get an idea about what they are going to listen to. They have to read the instructions of each exercise carefully, as sometimes they must listen for the 'right' answers. But in some of these questions, they must choose the one answer that is not possible or wrong. These exercises are also appropriate for those who intend to take IELTS or iBT exams later. My students did this activity; they liked it and didn't get bored (the variety of the exercises made them busy and concentrated). I gave them some other podcasts with their support packs and saw their gradual improvement.

Audio / Video And text mAteriAls - 7 views

These materials are from BBC Learning English site. all of them are downloadable and each audio & video material have its pdf file (with transcript and vocabulary). These audios/videos are good for developing students' listening and reading skills, increasing students' vocabulary, and also speaking skills. It depends on the purpose of using this material. For example I used the first one (I haven't used the others yet) "are men the weaker sex" with my intermediate students. While listening they underlined all the unknown words they had come up with, then we discussed the words together (I explained them in a target language). after, the discussion, I asked them not to look at the transcript and listened to the audio again. at the end of the audio they told me what the audio was about and in this way I could make them speak.
