Animals of the world - 3 views

  •
These are series of animal games for kids that can improve students' reading and writing skills and general knowledge about animals. They are required for high beginner and elementary level students.
  •
Neat activity. I'd pitch the level higher than beginning though, at least lower intermediate. Some of the vocab is pretty dense for beginning EFL/ESL learners.
  •
Great activity for content based classes. Sevan and Nelli

The Weather Song (Clip) - Kids + Children Learn English - 1 views

  •
I used this video/audio file for teaching 15 children from AUA EEC classes to describe weather (i.e. it is rainy, it is cloudy, it is snowy, it is sunny and etc). This video/audio file helped me to teach children in an enjoyable way. This activity worked well and all the students learned the target material properly.

Thanks a lot Nune. This is what I was looking for. I used it for myself and planning to examine it in a class scale as well.
  •
Thank you Armine. I have used these podcasts with my student. She enjoyed them very much because she was able to listen to native speakers and also do some grammatical exercises we have passed. These podcasts are also good for practicing scanning and skimming. So those who want to develop these skills they can use these podcasts. Tully speaking, after these podcast my student has become more attentive to the details and has begun to pay much attention to the detail and gist of the information.

THANK you very much!!! I really made great use of these podcasts, I use them for my student, and we just enjoy them!

This is a good reading and speaking task which includes scientific issues in a simplified language. The topic is attractive for teenagers and there are enough discussion issues to use as a reading and speaking exercise in the class situation.

Food Game - 8 views

  •
A game to practice food vocabulary (fruit, vegetables, drinks, meat, desserts...). Students should find foods indicated by chief's list on the side by click on them in a kitchen. I piloted this game with a 12 years-old neighbor of mine, who studies English at elementary level. He was pretty much engaged in the game. Though the food list at side is restricted, foods in the kitchen are not. This makes students to look around to find the food indicated rather than simply choose from a limited set of choices. As there are other food items as well, it also provides an opportunity to teach new food vocab. When the list is done for the 1st time, playing the game again allows to practice new items and a new list is provided. It's definitely more interactive than usual paper-based activities. In case of using it in a class, the teacher can also add some speaking tasks for group work.

Addeh, thank you for this link.I could engage my nephews into the English world at last.

Karine: ya, it is good interactive game for young learners of advance beginner/elementary level. Adelina: Glad to hear that. Actually the boy with whom I tried this also was pretty engaged in the game and few days ago when I met him and asked him to recall the words he learned back then, he almost named all of them. It provides a good visual for learning I suppose.

Animal Word Search - 0 views

  •
I used this during my EEC classes as a homework assignment and it worked pretty well because the students were very motivated to find the word that they had already learned. Besides, 'Animal Word Search' contains pictures of some animals, which makes them to do their homework with curiosity.

Kitchen for kids - 2 views

  •
This is a great source to teach your students words related to kitchen. If you tutor at your home or at your student's home, it is better take him/her to the kitchen and show him/her everything.Or you can bring some kitchen utilities into the class and show them. I myself tried it with my private student and it was a success. This way they will internalize the material better.

Audio and video materials - 11 views

This is a wonderful site and everybody can find audio and video materials on their level. All the materials develop listening, speaking, reading skills (skimming, scanning, true/false, etc), increase students' vocabulary. Almost all of them contain pdf files with activities and transcripts which also can be done online. All the materials provide examples (both online and on pdf file). I used some of them in my classes. I would like to talk about the video that explains the differences between the words of American English and British English. It was a wonderful video that could explain the different use of pants/trousers and other words also. In addition to video there are also exercises which also reinforces the vocabulary and provide with additional activities that develop students' different skills.

This is a huge site with different interesting sub sites. The certain activity that I've explored is designed especially for Business English classes. There are useful worksheets that are printable and can be very effective both to learn new specific vocabulary and to practice already learnt words.

Comparatives & Superlatives - 3 views

Comparing animals - Students practice comparatives & Superlatives using this fantastic crossword puzzle with animals words. The grammar focus in my EEC class was comparatives & superlatives and I tried this activity with my EEC students (low intermediate level) and it was interesting for them. It actually helped them think critically. i suggest you do this activity as an individual task, it will help you understand how well the students internalized the comparative and superlative forms of adjectives.

Head Idioms - 2 views

  •
I tried this video back in NY while teaching to ESL adult students. They were intermediate students, though with good english knowledge. I was supposed to teach idioms and this video helped me to first remove myself from being the center of attention and second to help students learn the idioms more easily, as the visualizations readily stick in their mind. The students very much liked the video and its humor refreshed the class atmosphere. However, I suggest to include some post-task exercises both written and spoken to reinforce them. There are other categories such as eye idioms as well which can be used to teach idioms in a fun way.

beginner motion words flashcards vocabulary - 2 views

  •
The activity consists of flashcards. Below the pictures there are some words. The teacher can cut the pictures and the words and ask the students to find the corresponding pictures and words. Teachers can assign it as a group or an individual work. This activity is more suitable for class work. I gave this activity to my daughter and she was interested in it. She asked me to give her more activities like that. So, I decided to give such activities to my beginner group students.

This interactive story can be used with elementary level students for developing reading. Students can read then listen to a an expert of English articulating the same thing. And this will help them to articulate the word correctly. I tries this with my sister. She liked the activity and most of all its interactivness.

Useful interview expressions spin - 2 views

  •
This game is also excellent for classroom teaching. Teachers can engage students in a classroom vocabulary or grammar review. It is suitable for intermediate and advanced esl learners. It can be used to energize a dull class, to review work that was done or simply as a reward for good classroom work.
