I favor teaching text structure and unique features of informational text as ways to enhance understanding, as well as teaching learners ways to comprehend and evaluate digital texts (regardless of type).
I think this article makes a good point about looking at the CC with a critical eye...and not interpreting CC so narrowly that we ignore what we know about good teaching.
In yesterday’s post, Non-Traditional Text and the Common Core, we argued that “no matter the CCSS task involving “text,” (e.g. comparing, analyzing, interpreting, composing, revising) illustrations, photographs, videos, and speeches can all be ‘read’ in ways cognitively similar to reading print.
