Some tips on designing for mobile devices.

This fall TSTC will be offering a Digital Media certificate which focuses on virtual world technology and they will be using Second Life as the primary way to deliver the course content. They plan for this certificate program to lead into an associate degree (AAS) in Digital Media starting in spring 2009.

Plug-in for Moodle that allows for viewing of Word documents (2003 or 2007), Excel files, PowerPoints, PDFs and Open Office without the viewer needing the relevant program (eg Word) on their computer.

Using the Kaltura video extension for Moodle, teachers can upload and manage rich-media content, such as full lectures in an online course; students can then post video comments, ask questions and create a face-to-face discussion recorded directly from their webcam or other sources.

Interesting article on increasing social presence in online courses using video. As an aside I wonder what effect the government's focus on retention will have on fully online course offerings?

Very short report on the change of the role of unis in providing content based courses. Thin, but notes OU has 360,000 iTunesU downloads per week and that the VC of the OU says that the value of an institution would not be its course content but how it motivated and supported students.

Recommendations to improve search experience - an OU project using library logs - eg "Other students on your course are also searching for ..."  At an early stage but worth watching.
