An online focus group was used to investigate the experiences of nine individuals with cerebral palsy who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and social media. Information was gathered related to (a) advantages of social media, (b) disadvantages of social media, (c) barriers to successful use, (d) supports to successful use, and (e) recommendations for other individuals using AAC, support personnel, policy makers, and technology developers. Participants primarily chose to focus on social media as a benef cial tool and viewed it as an important form of communication. The participants did describe barriers to social media use (e.g., technology). Despite barriers, all the participants in this study took an active role in learning to use social media. The results are discussed as they relate to themes and with reference to published literature.

"Both of these courses appear to be information centric. Learning objectives appear to be pre-defined, which implies that there isn't much variation to the students' work and learning experience. Based on their goals, I do not think students will be very engaged. Both courses seem to be educating about the past rather than teaching how to apply things in the future. " h/t David C

Soon, they will be confused to discover that I don't assess according to one's ability to retain information. It will take them a while to adjust, most have over a decade of schooling that has systematically conditioned them to believe in the value of isolated proofs."

There is in his syllabus no compromise with expediency, no taking for granted of power structures, nothing but rigorous honesty and tireless interrogation; there is some feeling or hope that if you could put every single thing under the sun into words you can head off sorrow, frustration, resentment, missed communication, thwarted ambition. Again, I am absolutely not kidding."

Do millenials like to read? That is my question. My nephew doesn't.

The original Pew study's worth a look; much more nuance, especially breaking down the Millennials into three distinct groups. And this interesting finding: "Millennials' lives are full of technology, but they are more likely than their elders to say that important information is not available on the internet."
