The Kress Foundation funded research to help clarify perceptions on digital scholarship and art history! I can only imagine the creative community being equally aghast and confused about earth art, conceptual art and performance art (among others). Wild to think about. We keep marching forward. "The findings reveal disagreements in the art history community about the value of digital research, teaching, and scholarship. Those who believe in the potential of digital art history feel it will open up new avenues of inquiry and scholarship, allow greater access to art historical information, provide broader dissemination of scholarly research, and enhance undergraduate and graduate teaching. Those who are skeptical doubt that new forms of art historical scholarship will emerge from the digital environment. They remain unconvinced that digital art history will offer new research opportunities or that it will allow them to conduct their research in new and different ways."

Certainly an interesting debate unfolding in the comments. Sadly, I'm on the side of 40 years of history over 15. I'm not holding my breath for the pendulum to swing back at this point...

Reducing someone to the number of languages he or she speaks trivializes the immense power that language imparts. After all, language is the living testament to a culture's history and world view, not a shiny trophy to be dusted off for someone's self-aggrandizement.

Language is a complex tapestry of trade, conquest and culture to which we each add our own unique piece - whether that be a Shakespearean sonnet or "Lol bae g2g ttyl." As my time in the media spotlight made me realize, saying you "speak" a language can mean a lot of different things: it can mean memorizing verb charts, knowing the slang, even passing for a native. But while I've come to realize I'll never be fluent in 20 languages, I've also understood that language is about being able to converse with people, to see beyond cultural boundaries and find a shared humanity. And that's a lesson well worth learning.

"The creators of the Women on the Map app are concerned that females who have made significant achievements don't get honoured in the same way that men do. It's been included as part of Google's Field Trip app, which points out places of interest when you visit different areas. Users have to select the Women On The Map source within the Google app to get the alerts. Their phone will then buzz when they approach the exact location where a woman has done something extraordinary and they can then read all about her and her achievements."
