The first place on the Internet to offer free books on-line. From the "About" page: "The first ebook was available on July 4, 1971, as eText #1 of Project Gutenberg, a visionary project launched by Michael Hart to create free electronic versions of literary works and disseminate them worldwide."
I don't often have free time to sit down and read for pleasure; however I've found that I can listen to books (with only one earphone in) as I drive, fly, mow the lawn or work on my home remodeling projects. This allows me to get through a book or 2 every week. Great site to keep track of books you've read, see what your friends recommend and know which books you shouldn't waste your time reading!

For every app store across every phone and mobile operating system, there are plenty of excellent apps that we recommend people download." [1] PC Magazine
Pandora radio is the personalized internet radio service that helps you find new music based on your old and current favorites. Create custom web radio stations, listen free.
Pandora Radio has got to be my all time favorite technology breakthrough. After clearing my search history several months ago, I could no longer access my Pandora Radio account. After four years of "thumbs up" and "thumbs down", I was devastated that I couldn't get to my personalized radio stations. I contacted customer service and the tech support guy was able to figure out that on my initial set up there was a typo in my email address. I was over joyed when I saw my favorite personalized radio stations glaring back at me.
I thank God for Pandora every day, I'd never make it through a single day at work without it. I love how it personalizes my musical tastes based on the "thumbs up" "thumbs down" I give the songs. My only quarrel is that I can't just look up a song and listen to it right then. :D
This is a page with instructions on how to build your own bamboo bike trailer. At the bottom there are additional links to other designs for utility trailers for bikes. I have borrowed the trailers that the Pedal People use in Northampton and they are great. You can haul up to 300 lbs and they don't compromise your stability much. The catch is that their trailers cost upwards of $450. There is a a significant community of enthusiasts that simply want to promote human power as an alternative to fossil fuel, and consequently you can find all of these trailer plans offered for free - some with Creative Commons licenses and others just there for the taking/sharing. It's great!
Here, Wikipedia summarizes Moore's Law, which describes scientific trends in technological advances.
Scroll down to the highlighted sub-chapter of the page, and you can review projected challenges to faster technology.
In the end, we cannot stop the evolution of technology, as it races circles around current systems in twos. Every couple of years, we need to upgrade, otherwise, consider being left behind in obsolescence (scroll down to the next highlight for a definition).
I've used this website to track down information on a source. Depending on how many specifics you already know, you can find lots of background on a person for free. For instance- I used it to track down the name of my boss before he had it legally changed when he was 23. He's now in his 40's so the old name was long gone.
