Lizard Point - 2 views

  •
Interactive way for students to practice a variety of geography and math exercises.
  •
I tried this out and really liked the math practice. I can have my students practice their addition and subtraction facts easily. In addition to that they can select how many digits to add or subtract and if they will be required to carry or borrow when doing so. I also really liked the Little Farmer money practice. This is a major concept we work on in second grade, so this site would be perfect!

Thank you for sharing this, Greg. I appreciate how the different activities are leveled. I will plan to use this to help my students practice long division, a skill that they are all over the place on in terms of abilities.

Math Graphic Organizers - 1 views

  •
This website does require a $20 membership per year but has a lot of useful resources. When people think of graphic organizers they don't always think of using them for math. This website has a lot of graphic organizers that are specifically applicable to math.

The Enchanted Learning website offers many resources. I had never thought of looking for graphic organizers on this site. Thanks for posting it.

Good source to find video to use as an advanced organizer. I wish I had used this last Monday to show students video of Sonoran Wildlife before we read a selection set in the desert.

Twitter - 0 views

Twitter will allow you to get ideas quickly from other teachers you know. If you have a problem and need some help, just "tweet" it and people can respond with suggestions. This could be used as a type of collaboration even though you aren't meeting face to face.

This can be used just like Twitter, but you could also create a group where ideas can be thrown around, stored for long periods of time, and then easily found again.

Big Six Organizer - 2 views

  •
The Big Six is an information seeking strategy developed by Michael B. Eisenberg and Robert E. Berkowitz that assists students in information problem solving. Teachers and librarians would greatly benefit from this organization tool to get students organized BEFORE they begin their research. Once students have their topics for research, they are able to use the Big Six strategy to guide them through their research. This pdf file will allow students to save it and once saved, they are able to click on comment and type their information into the file. There is another version of the Big Six for elementary called: Plan, Do, Review.

Google Sites - 0 views

Google Sites allows you to create and share webpages. Google Sites is set up to help you create a web page (easily it states), collect your information all in one place, and control who can view it and edit it, which is a lot like Google Docs. There is also a learn more link where you can view a quick overview video to help get you started: http://www.google.com/sites/help/intl/en/overview.html This would be a great resource tool for collaborating on a group project.

This Activity is currently (April 2011) running.  It is run by the Smithsonian and MIT.  It's part mystery, part science.  I don't know what comes next, but so far there has been code cracking and data collection.

This site has some really neat ideas for new and interesting ways for students to show their knowledge. It is an excellent resource for book report ideas. The site also provides links to other helpful websites. I did find the site a little strange to navigate in that the directions for creating a project are located in one place and then it directs you to another location on the site for pictures or drawings of the process, but overall it is still a good resource.

Virtual Tourist - 0 views

This is an interactive map of the world. Students click once on places they have been, twice on places they have lived, and three times on places they want to visit. Virtual Tourist also has additional interactive maps on their main website. Need to register with the site to get full access to all features.
