This is a great lesson plan resource for teachers. The plans are for k-12. They range from the great depression to pod casts about Michigan. The lesson plans are printable and yes, there are answer keys for the worksheets.

What a great site to visit on President's Day. This site allows you to take a virtual tour of Presidential Libraries. Students will enjoy this unique opportunity to learn about the lives of our US Presidents and the important impacts they had on our country while serving in office.

To find original historical documents this is the site to visit. It contains the most famous Bill of Rights and US Constitution as well as famous letters such as one written by Elvis to President Nixon and speeches like the WWII Infamy speech given by FDR. Students viewing these actual documents will help bring reality to the people and events in history.

The National Archives does a great job of creating lesson plans to use with primary documents. This would be a great resource to guide teachers through the process of integrating primary documents that go along with their curriculum objectives. The website is easy to navigate so you can quickly access the information that is needed.

This site provides information about poets and their poetry that Literature/Language Arts teachers could use in their classrooms. There are links to specific poets, such as Ted Kooser and Walt Whitman, as well as a link to recorded poetry. Students could research poets, they could listen to poetry, or they could read poetry on this site.

This site includes material about famous Americans. This site would work for any reports about presidents, about authors, or about musicians. It would also be helpful when researching the various states. As an American Literature teacher I would use the site to have students research Langston Hughes, for instance. That would also be a great source for Black History Month.

Looking for another great social studies website? Here it is. This site is sponsored by the Library of Congress and contains amazing stories of America's past. Students will be able to learn more about famous Americans, they can "Jump Back in Time" to read about important events that have taken place in history such as the Revolutionary War, WWII, Western Expansion, Colonial America and many, many more.

I chose this site because it appears to cover all students K - 12. It has lesson plans, worksheets, and activities for all 13 grade levels. It also has helps for teachers in grades K - 12. The website has various activities which can be used directly on the web and others for paper and pencil activities.

This seems to be a good site for U.S. history. It separates lessons by ERA. It incluseds worksheets for each ERA as well as documents which are related to the ERA. There are pictures from each of the ERAS and various teaching activities. I would use this site for the 9-12 grade student with the possibility of use with middle school students.

This page allows you to search historical newspaper articles throughout history. Students would love this site to research events throughout history by looking at these old newspapers.

This site offers newspaper pages from 1860 to 1992 from various states, including Nebraska. Seeing the front page headlines from a newspaper printed at the time of a historical event could give students a better understanding of how people living at that time viewed the event.

This site contains a wealth of resources for teachers. They have primary source sets that include teacher resource booklets and lesson plans. One of the sets I found useful was one on the Constitution that included newspaper articles and original documents that trace the drafting and adoption of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This set would be useful for all grade levels for Constitution day materials in September. There was also an interesting primary source set on Thanksgiving that had paintings and photographs showing historical perspectives on American Thanksgiving traditions.

While the Library of Congress website is vast, I found the Classroom Resources section under the Teachers heading to be beneficial for my current position as a third grade classroom teacher; although many of the items I saw could be used at any elementary grade level. I found the Primary Sources by State and Immigration Challenges to be beneficial to my current unit in my district's SS program. The Thanksgiving link would be interesting for the students to see and discover things they didn't know before celebrating this holiday. I'll definitely use this site with my students, because it goes so well with what we're studying. Plus, it creates a more 'real' experience than their textbook allows.

These documents are part of the Diplomacy in Action webpage maintained by the U.S. Department of State. If you search out other links on this site, you will find a vast resource of information about countries around the world.

This site gives personal narratives from slaves during the Civil War and after.

This site includes diaries, autobiographies and travel accounts from ex-slaves. I would use this site in the study of the Civil War to give the students a better understanding of what the slaves thought of their situation.

This site may be a valuable resource for information related to United Nations day held on October 24th. The Office of the Historian is found on the U.S. Department of state website. It has historical government documents, information on key milestones in history, and important biographical information on all Secretary of State officeholders in U.S. history. On the site, a link will take you to a guide to all countries that provides historical reference information on all aspects of the United States' relations with the countries of the world dating back to 1776 to the present time.

This site contains primary documents to help students understand what was happening when our country was seeking independence and after we became an independent nation. I know that the journals of the continental congress would be intersting to some students.

The World Factbook was produced for U.S. policy makers. The information is fairly easy to read and comprehend, therefore, students can use the documents, especially on the middle and secondary level. The World Factbook provides information on the history, people, government, economy, geography, communications, transportation, military, and transnational issues for 266 world entities. The government documents they have are maps of the major world regions, Flags of the World, a Physical Map of the World, a Political Map of the World, and a Standard Time Zones of the World map.

The NOAA is the oldest scientific agency in the U.S. The National Weather Service that we know today dates back to 1870. Government documents on this site include meteorological and climate data from all states, maps, and images. The online NOAA Photo Library on this site has over 32,000 images, including hundreds of images of our shores and coastal seas, and thousands of marine species images ranging from the great whales to plankton. This is the homepage to access all of NOAA information and links, but there is an educational outreach link that would lead teachers and students to other valuable webpages sponsored by NOAA.

The MedlinePlus website would be very valuable for students in middle and high school grades doing research about diseases and health related topics. MedlinePlus provides health information and documents from the world's largest medical library, the National Library of Medicine. MedlinePlus is updated daily and has current reliable information on over 800 diseases and conditions. I especially found interesting the video footage of numerous actual surgeries narrated by doctors to treat major medical conditions.
