This site contains a wealth of resources for teachers. They have primary source sets that include teacher resource booklets and lesson plans. One of the sets I found useful was one on the Constitution that included newspaper articles and original documents that trace the drafting and adoption of the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This set would be useful for all grade levels for Constitution day materials in September. There was also an interesting primary source set on Thanksgiving that had paintings and photographs showing historical perspectives on American Thanksgiving traditions.

While the Library of Congress website is vast, I found the Classroom Resources section under the Teachers heading to be beneficial for my current position as a third grade classroom teacher; although many of the items I saw could be used at any elementary grade level. I found the Primary Sources by State and Immigration Challenges to be beneficial to my current unit in my district's SS program. The Thanksgiving link would be interesting for the students to see and discover things they didn't know before celebrating this holiday. I'll definitely use this site with my students, because it goes so well with what we're studying. Plus, it creates a more 'real' experience than their textbook allows.

Site includes maps, pictures, thematic packets for teachers and more. Teachers are able to navagate throughout the site to access all aspects of history. Site also provides sources for professional training and outside resources. Site provides training on how to use primary sources.

Library of Congress Teachers Page, with links to using primary sources, etc. The LOC has created "Themed Resources" that include specific, common topics into easy to use sets. The combined resources include grouped primary source sets, lessson plans, exhibitions, etc. Love IT! Also provides user with pre-made LOC professional development sessions called "Teaching with Primary Sources."

This website for kids is develped by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. It is an award winning website with the character Energy Ant. Learn all about energy, its sources, uses, how to save energy, history with information rich timeline, calculators and tools for converting energy, measuring etc., games and activities, glossary and teacher section. Text formatted.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration provides this "Energy Kids" site. It defines energy in lots of different ways. It compares renewable and nonrenewable sources as well as potential and kinetic energy. It talks about different types of energy sources, the history of energy and even provides games and activities for kids.

This website, created by the US Dept of Energy's Information Administration, answers students' questions about energy -- from what is energy to the history of energy to saving energy. Website provides teachers with lesson plans, teacher guides, virtual field trips, energy career information. All teacher information is categorized by student age group.

A richly interactive site where visitors can design and create varied genres of art. A virtual tour through the NGA has an accompanying guide in 5 languages. Extensive information on artists from all eras. Lots of activities at the teacher's site. A good instructional site. Grades 3-12.

This art site allows children to explore American Folk art, landscapes, abstract art, still life, and digital photography. Children are able to manipulate art to create their own pieces. Students can also create a tropical jungle. There are additional online resources for teachers, as well as a link to exhibits from the National Art Gallery.

This page contains several art activities for children, including interactive art programs that allow students to create portraits or still life pictures. There is a link that allows students to search for specific artists or works. This site would be a good resource for art teachers, but English teachers could also use it to find different works of art that appeal to kids and could be used for descriptive writing assignments.

This site has everything that is related to weather. The site is divided into information for students in K-5 and grades 6-12. There are fun and interesting things for students to explore and do. There is a book that can be downloaded and includes quizzes.

This is a wonderful site for the teacher that needs sites for their weather units. This is a great source for K-12 teachers. The sites range from learning about severe weather safety to coloring books for younger students.

This site is a large collection of documents relating to the Presidency. There are documents such as election debates, party platforms, Inaugural Addresses, and press conferences.  This would be a great site for a history teacher or for a language arts teacher who might be teaching how speeches are constructed or given.  

This is a great site for upper elementary through high school. There are numerous learning experiences from exploring a town which has been cleaned up, to learning to help the city budget enough to follow through with their plans of cleaning up the environment. There are activity areas as well as teacher information sections. I will be sharing this with the middle school science teachers I know.

This website is good for the Language Arts teacher or classroom. It has many links to primary sources regarding Shakespeare and other English topics. If a teacher were to delve deeply into the meaning or topics of Shakespeare's works, this would be a good place for students to get information.

This site is s group of newspaper and magazine articles from African American issues to cartoon historical articles. It includes magazines for fashion in the 30's and earlier. It has movie reviews and music history. In other words, just about anything in history that one would like to look up in the newspaper or magazines. These sites are very good for students to see first hand information about a particular time in history. These kinds of sites can be used for almost any kind of project the teacher can think up. The teacher librarian needs to be aware of at least a few of these different kinds of sites.

This site offers many primary sources and documents from the Holocaust. It also provides teacher resources teachers can use to teach their classes about the Holocaust.

This site has almost anything one would want having to do with the United States government. It is one of the most extensive sites relating to the U.S. government. It has information for students as low as kindergarten and as high as seniors. It seems rare to find a site that truely covers this range of ages as well as this one does. For the elementary teacher and the high school history teacher this will be a helpful site to use.

Fabulous! As a former drama teacher, this site is a must for anyone wanting original documets from Shakespeare's plays. The site drills down further for each play, going to detailed documents that are related to the plays. Study guides, lesson plans. This is the definitive source for Shakespeare anything. There is nothing as complete and authoritative as the Folger library for Shakespeare information, whether student or teacher.

This site was developed by a teacher in responce to budget cuts. It is geared to elementary students and contains information on various types of animal farming. NOTE: Explore this site before using it in class, as some links seem to be broken, including teacher resources.

I heard about this site when I saw Pam Berger at the Heartland School Library Conference this summer. This sites lets you design your own interactive primary source activity. You can create digital movies, comic strips and rebus stories. Teachers can create and manage activities for a class. The site is simple enough that students (or student groups) could even create their own activities to present to their class. The site also operates completely online and requires no downloads.

This site has over 600 primary source documents from the time of Christopher Columbus to the Civil War. This would connect with 5th grade curriculum about the American Revolution and Native Americans. This would be a great resource to introduce to teachers and students.

This is an amazing site with hundreds of annotated American political documents.  There are items written by Christopher Columbus, Cotton Mather, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and William Bradford.  This site would be very useful to a classroom teacher to show the actual documents that are discussed in a textbook. 

Some key primary sources regarding the Vietnam War are included on the site along with some helpful suggestions for teachers. There are quite a few interesting reflections on the war and information from "the trenches" included on this site as well.

This site would be extremely useful for history teachers when teaching about Vietnam. There are letters, maps, as well as first-person accounts from people who were in Vietnam.

This site is a WEALTH of information on the history of the United States. It includes letters, documents, photos, audio and video that are all in the public domain (and there fore also legal to use) since they are all owned by the U.S. government. Using the search box will yield many results. My favorite search on this site is to find primary sources about the great depression. A search tip: be sure to click "gallery view" when you look at your search results. It helps you know what type of source you are looking at.

There are some great sites at this source. Their topics run from Women's history to Native American history. There are even maps. This would be a big help for upper elementary to 12th grade.

Attractive web design with simulations of satellites stations. Good job of explaining reconnaissance and satellites. Includes audio with separate buttons for elementary and secondary students. Recommended for grades 3 - 8. Provides links with extensive resources for parents and teachers.

This site is exciting! Using satalite images, the site creates books on different topics, including games, simulations, the use of satellites, the solar system and more. The main page provides links for K-5, 6-12, parents, and teachers. The teacher link includes lesson plans, a link to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, plus many more additional links.

Great resources at this site for space study. A list of popular activities to do with your students and many links to follow for more in depth information. Good information given in a variety of different ways; imagines, live debates, games, video, lectures, etc...

This site has an abundance of information related to most classroom uses. It has information on English, math, science, geography, history, art etc. There are short power points to show to students, worksheets and many other ways to use this site. It will be helpful to teacher in more than one area.
