This cite shares differing points of views during the civil war. This site includes letters to and from family members, soldiers, slaves, women and children. It would be interesting to compare the letters to the social studies books kids use in class.

This site include LOTS of photographs and documents from historical events. They are described briefly and organized by tags. Interesting organizational format could teach not only about historical events, but also about the value of how good tags work. Visitors to the site are challenged to make their own "pathway" through the pictures and documents. Visitors can also make posters and movies with the content they find.

This site organizes lessons, pictures and documents by historical era. The links include descriptions of the historical events. Because of the variety of historical events included and the organization of the site, it will be easy for teachers to find what they are looking for.

This NASA site would be great for 4th and 5th grades. It talks about how NASA studies different parts of the Earth. It includes a "Picture of the Day" and a "Did You Know!" section. I also like how it include career ideas for kids to read about. I can see this being used as part of a learning station.

This site describes how and why the US census is taken. It includes state and US facts as well as quizzes for kids to take. This site would fit well into 4th or 5th grade social studies units, but I think 3rd graders might enjoy it too.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration provides this "Energy Kids" site. It defines energy in lots of different ways. It compares renewable and nonrenewable sources as well as potential and kinetic energy. It talks about different types of energy sources, the history of energy and even provides games and activities for kids.

This site gives information about Federal Emergency Management Agency. It provides links to games and interactive sites that help kids understand the agency, what it does, types of weather emergencies and how to be prepared for weather emergencies. This would be a good addition/extension to a weather unit in 3rd-5th science curriculum.

This Library of Congress site would be fun to use as a bell work activity in upper elementary school. Each day a student could pick one event from "today in history" to share with the class. Informative with pictures!

This site has links to interactive sites about the White House and presidents. It includes photos, descriptions and games that would enhance Social Studies curriculum in 4th and 5th grades. It also includes links to the U.S. Mint and the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. It explains how money is made and used as well as how the designs of money came to be.

As a classroom teacher, art was always a struggle for me. As I was looking through our curriculum guide, I noticed one of the national art standards asks students to "Understand and apply media, technique and processes. This site allows kids to create collages using different shapes and layering. There are size, transparency, flip and turn functions. Printing is an option. This would be fun as station activity.
