Lisa Nielsen: The Innovative Educator: Could PBL be the Solution to Education Reform? - 0 views

  • the solution to the education reform that teachers are looking for, could quite possibly be ... Project-Based Learning.
  •  If students are engaged in PBL, they can begin creating an ePortfolio in order to demonstrate their learning and understanding of standards, rather than testing for them.
  • When teachers integrate Project-Based Teaching, they are providing the opportunity for differentiated learning, rather than differentiated instruction.  "Differentiated learning shifts the responsibility for the learning to the learner (where it belongs)"
  • ...5 more annotations...
  • With PBL, students are empowered to work at their own pace and ability level which provides them with the opportunity to challenge themselves.
  • Students can create a project using any of the Eight Multiple Intelligences.  Below are some suggestions for projects. "Students could meet standards at their own pace, in their own way and learning could be differentiated and aligned to each child’s talents, passions, interests, and abilities"
  • Having students create and share these projects will allow for the deepest understanding of the content.
  • Students will no longer have to "memorize" or try to "remember" the information ... because they will have learned it.
  • teacher is letting go of control by allowing the students to take ownership of their learning.

Five awesome QR code tricks | How To - CNET - 1 views

  • Share Wi-Fi access. I wrote this up a while back, but it's pretty great: Wifi Joiner lets you create and post a QR code that embeds access info for your wireless network. This is great for home networks, coffee shops, and plenty of other places. For the moment, though, it's Android-only.
  • Get reminders as you leave the house. If you use an online task manager like Google Tasks or Remember The Milk, it's easy to create a tag called "Leaving the House," "Leaving Work," etc., then create a QR code directing to that page. Post it at the door, or anywhere else you'll be sure to see it when leaving, then scan it for reminders of things you need to do before leaving. At the very least, you won't forget your phone anymore! Have you come up with some awesome uses for QR codes? Let us know.
  •
QR codes are everywhere, and for good reason. They're easy to make, easier to scan, and are terrific for delivering info quickly and broadly (or narrowly, if you like). It seems likely that they're evolving, but they're still superuseful right now, and smart folks are uncovering all sorts of cool ways to make the most of them.

Writing Specific Directions to Recreate Human Sculptures: Set 3 of 4 - What's going on ... - 0 views

  • Students were given the task of creating a human sculpture out of four students, and having a fifth student write the directions so that another group could recreate the sculpture without ever seeing the original.  This turned out to be quite hard, because much of our writing lacks detail and makes assumptions that the reader knows what we mean when they actually don't!
