Continuing investment in automation equipment, driven by globalisation, will push the worldwide market for general motion control (GMC) equipment to nearly $7bn by 2010, a new report predicts

In addition to the high-technology and innovation demonstrated by the MOTIONLINE® cables, a key element in winning the contract was Nexans' own dedicated Motion Application Centre (MAC), which is part of the Nexans Research Centre (NRC) in Nuremberg. This facility, unique in the industry, enables cables to be exposed to dynamic operating loads that simulate realistic, in-service conditions, thus ensuring that they offer the ideal combination of bending, tension and torsional strength and vibration resistance required for their intended application.

With its new start-stop coasting function, Bosch enables drivers of vehicles with combustion engines to travel in zero-emission, noise-free, and low-resistance mode over large parts of their journey. This innovative technology stops the engine when the vehicle is in motion, so that it does not consume any fuel. Whenever the vehicle can maintain its speed simply by rolling – for instance on a gentle incline – the engine is stopped. As soon as the driver touches the gas or brake pedal, the engine starts up again.

The terminal is a vast building and houses the world’s largest  controlled-lighting system, with 120,000 light fittings and 2,600 sensors designed to switch them off when no motion is detected. The airport’s operators now plan to replace all the bulbs in one go with LEDs that are expected to last at least five years.
