World Metal Powders Market to Reach $5.7 Billion by 2012, According to New Report by Gl... - 0 views

  •
Driven by technological advances in powder metals (P/M) forging, spray forming, hot isostatic pressing, direct powder rolling, high temperature vacuum sintering and metal injection molding, the world metal powders market is projected to reach $5.7 billion by the year 2012. Growing popularity in the use of new equipment components made from powered metallurgy in industries such as electronics, aerospace, automobile, and mechanical engineering, is expected to offer expanded market opportunities for future growth.

Optimization of the copper addition to the core of in situ Cu-sheathed MgB2 wires - 0 views

  • Recent results on powder-in-tube in situ Cu-sheathed MgB2 wires have shown that copper powder additions to the core can accelerate the formation of MgB2, increasing its volume fraction and greatly decreasing the amount of Mg–Cu intermetallic phases present in the core after heat treatment. The amount of added copper and heat treatment conditions strongly affect the critical current of the wire and require optimization.

Johnson Controls introduces air conditioners with MicroChannel technology. -REFRIGE.COM... - 0 views

  •
Johnson Controls, a global leader in building efficiency, announced the new LX Series of air conditioners and heat pumps by York, its leading air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, and ventilating company. They feature a MicroChannel coil with enhanced heat transfer characteristics, enabling them to achieve the desired performance levels with less coil surface area than competitive condensers and up to 50 percent less refrigerant. The units are available with environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant as well as R-22. 14.5 SEER LX Series air conditioners use a compressor blanket and swept-wing fan blade for quieter operation. 15+ SEER can be achieved when the air conditioner is matched with a variable-speed air handler or gas furnace. A fully louvered steel coil guard, corner posts and a polymer mesh protect the condensing coils from damage. The unit's heavy-duty cabinet is made of powder-painted steel that resists corrosion and rust creep.\n\n\n\n\nIn addition, the MicroChannel coil offers better galvanic corrosion resistance than conventional coils. In testing, the coil withstood 7,000 hours of salt spray with a higher success rate than conventional coils at just 1,000 hours, making the units particularly desirable for seacoast applications, reveals the company's press release.\n\n

Norddeutsche to expand copper scrap recycling by 2011 - 0 views

Norddeutsche Affinerie AG (NA) said it is expecting at least EUR40 million of synergies each year from the takeover of Cumerio which was completed in March this year. The company said that it will benefit from the transfer of best practice between the two companies while cost savings mainly come from logistics and process optimization. NA also plans to increase production at its Cumerio smelters. The company expects further acquisition opportunities in Europe and in other parts of the world, including Asia. NA plans to expand its operations in southeastern Europe and the Black Sea region to capitalize on its strong economic growth before looking for growth opportunities outside Europe. In Bulgaria, the company currently expands copper cathode production capacity of its Pirdop smelter to 180,000 tonnes per year.

Norddeutsche Affinerie is to invest €62.5M to increase by 60% its copper scrap recycling capacity in Lünen, Germany by 2011. The investment will double the firm's capacity to process complex copper-bearing scrap such as shreddings, powders and electrical scrap to 140,000t/y, bringing total scrap recycling capacity up to 350,000t/y from 220,000t/y currently. The scrap will be processed into copper cathode. The investment will see the installation of a second smelting furnace, and a waste gas purification plant in Lünen. Norddeutsche's current secondary smelter in Lünen uses a range of scrap, whilst its Hamburg plant uses copper concentrate and a small percentage of high-grade scrap. Electronic scrap availability has increased in Europe as end-of-life regulations have been introduced for its disposal.

New Method Used to Synthesize Cu-Based Nanocomposite - 0 views

  • In this research, we added silicon carbide powder of micro and nanoscales to copper by means of friction stir processing in order to reinforce its strength and resistance to surface erosion.
  • "It is possible to increase the strength base and resistance to erosion up to 3 times and 10 times respectively with respect to the material substance. It is also possible to give properties such as semi conduction or other physical properties to the desired material with regard to its application," he added, explaining about the results of the study.
