Smart Appliance Market to Reach Nearly $35 Billion Annually by 2020 - 0 views

  • One interim technology, which could serve as a bridge to greater awareness of smart appliances, is smart plugs, according to the report.  These devices act as sensors for conventional appliances and electronic devices, enabling consumers to track electricity usage by the outlet.  While the number of smart appliances remains low, and prices of available models remain high, smart plugs may be able to provide consumers with a way to save money on energy bills while familiarizing themselves with smart household technology and its benefits.

Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Market to Surpass $3.8 Billion by 2020 - 0 views

  • The key short-term challenge for commercial EVSE sales is to devise viable business models.  Currently, it seems likely that both “all-you-can-eat” subscription plans and single price per charge models will be used in the near future.  Pike Research’s analysis indicates that the industry seems to be converging around a very low price point for per-charge costs that affords little cushion for the host site to make money.  According to the report, the subscription model appears to hold the most promise as a way to generate revenue from public charging systems at a price that will be acceptable to drivers.

Global Power Industry Outlook, 2017 - 1 views

  •
"The transition to a more decentralised and intelligent energy system will continue in 2017, driven by the continued regulatory support for renewable energy in a number of key markets. The 3 Ds of energy are driving future investment - increased decentralisation, the need to decarbonise electricity generation, and digitisation to boost the sector's operational efficiency and open up new market opportunities. The highest growth rates will be for solar PV, with investment forecast to increase by 11.5% to €141.6 billion in 2017. China continues to be the largest market in terms of revenue investment, but the fastest growth will come from India, which will see double-digit growth in investment to 2020. New business models that incentivise smarter consumption patterns, and the growth of energy storage technologies, will increasingly reduce the need for peak capacity investment in mature energy markets."

U.S.A. - Pike Research expects high voltage cable demand from submarine transmission pr... - 0 views

  •
Pike Research, a clean-tech analysis and consultancy firm, reported that the number of cable projects will increase dramatically from 60 in 2011 to 350 by 2020, representing a CAGR of 21.6%. This is attributed to growing demand for offshore renewable power which requires both new and replacement grid interconnections to nearby landmasses. 53 of the 60 projects in 2011 are being deployed in Europe and the company expects that the demand from the region will continue to underpin the trend in high voltage submarine cable consumption in the future. It is thought that the supply chain will be stressed unless high voltage submarine cable production capacity, a niche market with only a few manufacturers, undergoes significant expansion.

Hybrid and Plug-in Electric Vehicles Will Reach Nearly 7% of the Worldwide Light Duty V... - 0 views

  • While hybrid vehicles (which pair a conventional internal combustion engine with an electric motor) have become an established segment of the overall automotive market, the limited availability of plug-in electric vehicles (PEVs) – including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and battery electric vehicles (BEVs) – has inhibited sales growth in a number of major markets.  Major automakers including Honda, Volkswagen, Hyundai, and others will be launching PEVs in a large number of countries over the next 2 years, however, adding to the list of available models, sparking increased consumer interest, and accelerating sales opportunities.

Energy storage drumbeat gets stronger as California mandate comes into focus - 0 views

  • California’s utilities are required to provide a third of their power from renewables by 2020 – renewables that will greatly benefit from energy storage to buffer their intermittency. As a result, the California PUC proposed recently that the state's three largest utilities procure just over 1.3 GW of storage by 2020. To put that number in context, the California Energy Storage Alliance estimates that the number is "probably comparable" to the current total worldwide.
