INDIAN COUPLES ARE exploring new wedding locations and planning large, personalized celebrations, according to a study commissioned by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. Wyndham conducted the survey of 1,000 recently engaged or married individuals across India to market its 60 hotels in the country. The study found that the couples are adding unique and scenic destinations such as Darjeeling, Amritsar, Mussoorie and Dehradun to traditional locations such as Goa, Udaipur and Jaipur in their wedding plans. It also found that large, multi-day weddings are resurging as couples look to make memories while balancing luxury with budget-conscious choices through a more collaborative, hands-on approach to wedding planning. "Wyndham's wedding trend report reveals a shift toward unique, personalized wedding destinations like Goa and Udaipur reflecting a desire for more exclusive, meaningful experiences," said Dimitris Manikis, Wyndham's president EMEA. "While large and multi-day celebrations are making a comeback, it is great to see younger generations, especially Tech savvy Gen Z's blending opulence with budget and sustainable-conscious choices, emphasising authenticity and collaboration. LAS VEGAS LED the top 25 markets in meetings and events growth for September, with a 34.2 percent year-over-year increase, according to Cendyn's Sales Intelligence platform, formerly Knowland. This marked its eighth consecutive month in the top five. Las Vegas meetings and events averaged 5,596 square feet with 209 attendees, driven by weddings, accounting for about 10 percent of event volume, and tech events like Oracle SuiteWorld, according to Cendyn. Anaheim ranked second, hosting education, national associations, and weddings. Across the top 25 markets, average space rose to 3,856 square feet with 130 attendees. The top five among the 25 leading markets were: Las Vegas (+34.2 percent): Weddings, technology, training/education, national associations and manufacturing. Anaheim-Santa Ana (+23.2 percent): Education, national associations, weddings, healthcare and consulting. Orlando (+22.9 percent): National associations, technology, healthcare, training/education and charity/non-profits/social services. New York (+21 percent): International government, finance/banking, charity/non-profits/social services, national associations and travel. Dallas (+18.6 percent): Healthcare, technology, consulting, finance/banking and education.

HOTEL EMPLOYEES NOW have their own day, Sept. 1, thanks to the American Hotel & Lodging Association. AHLA had the date included in the National Day Calendar as part of its effort to increase recruitment of new hospitality workers. National Hotel Employee Day will be celebrated annually to thank hotel employees for their hard work and dedication and recognize the role they play in the nation's travel, tourism and hotel industries, according to AHLA. AHLA's launching of the day is in response to the struggle U.S. hotels are facing to quickly fill more than 120,000 open hotel jobs by offering current and prospective employees higher wages, with better benefits, and more flexibility. "On this inaugural National Hotel Employee Day, we thank America's nearly two million hotel employees. Every day in communities across the nation, hotel employees' service and dedication help facilitate some of Americans' most important life events - from wedding receptions to family reunions and vacations," said Chip Rogers, AHLA president and CEO. "Now is the time to consider one of the more than 200 enriching careers in the hotel industry."

EVENT VOLUME CLIMBED 21.7 percent year over year in September compared to the previous year, according to hospitality analytics firm Knowland. Nashville saw the highest percent growth at 30.7 percent. Los Angeles came in second at 22.3 percent over 2022. Among the top five performing markets, national associations spearheaded growth, with healthcare, education, and weddings as primary industry drivers. Nashville's growth was stimulated by the healthcare and technology sectors, accounting for 34 percent of the corporate events in the market, Knowland said in a statement. Nashville meetings averaged 101 attendees, utilizing over 2,692 square feet of meeting space. Despite ongoing talks between Los Angeles hoteliers and striking workers, the market continued to grow compared to 2022, the statement added.

FOUR HOTELS HAVE converted to the AmeriVu brand founded in 2015 by Wisconsin hotelier Nick Rai. Amerivu is now part of Atlanta-based Hospitality Lodging Systems. The 51-room AmeriVu Inn & Suites in Cisago City, Minnesota, is a conversion from a Comfort Inn. Nearby attractions include Bloom Lake Barn wedding venue, Wild Mountain Ski Area, Trollhaugen Outdoor Recreation Area, Cedar Lake Speedway and Somerset Amphitheater. Amenities include an indoor heated pool with hot tub and is ADA accessible. "In the post-COVID environment, hotel owners don't want to work hard to recover and rebound, just so they can send bigger checks to their brand," said Doug Collins, Chairman and CEO of HLS. "Instead, more owners are deciding to work smarter - by switching to a brand that keeps hard-earned money in their pocket." In 2017, Rai opened the 40-room AmeriVu Hotel in Cumberland, Wisconsin, the 42-room AmeriVu in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and two other conversions.

WYNDHAM HOTELS & RESORTS has entered into a new agreement with Groups360 to bring instant online multi-room bookings to Wyndham hotels in 2023. Using Groups360's GroupSync Marketplace direct booking solution, Wyndham hotel owners will have the opportunity to integrate the platform with their hotel reservation systems, providing travel planners, including groups and events organizers along with those managing infrastructure, logistics and corporate accounts, with rates and availability as well as booking of rooms online, the company said in a statement. "Over the last three years, Wyndham has invested over $100 million in major technology initiatives, giving our franchisees access to best-in-class offerings that unlock new efficiencies while helping to grow their bottom line," said Lisa Checchio, Wyndham's chief marketing officer. "Bringing franchisees access to GroupSync is just the latest example and one we believe offers incredible opportunity for franchisees, particularly those in the economy segment, where such technology is an industry first." Hotels that publish live inventory and rates within the GroupSync Marketplace save travel planners' valuable time by allowing them to search, shop and book blocks of rooms. Possible users include short one- to-two-night group events such as youth sports, weddings and family reunions, as well as multi-week infrastructure or logistics projects such as commercial construction, bridge repair or highway expansion, Wyndham's statement said.

TAMPA-ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA led in meetings and events growth for the top 25 markets in February with a 20 percent year-over-year increase, according to Knowland. Denver and Boston came in second and third, respectively, while National Associations and Technology groups led in four of the top five markets. Overall, year-over-year event volume growth for the industry reached 5.3 percent, the report said. Meetings in the top 25 markets used an average space of 3,507 square feet, compared to 2,890 square feet in secondary markets. The top 25 markets had an average of 124 attendees, while secondary markets averaged 118 attendees. Additional insights into the key industry drivers for the top 25 markets with the highest meeting volumes include: Tampa-St. Petersburg (up 20 percent): national association, healthcare, charity/non-profit/social services, technology and wedding. Denver (up 7 percent): technology, national association, education, healthcare and construction. Boston (up 15 percent): education, healthcare, technology, training/education and travel.

PHOENIX RANKED FIRST among the top 25 markets with 19.7 percent year-over-year growth in October, according to Cendyn's Sales Intelligence platform, formerly Knowland. This was its first time at the top spot this year, driven by national associations, technology, healthcare and financial/banking events. Las Vegas followed closely with 17.7 percent growth, placing it in the top five for the 10th consecutive month, Cendyn said. South Michigan and Florida's Panhandle led secondary markets, while Kauai, Hawaii, saw significant year-over-year growth at 72 percent. Phoenix averaged 5,612 square feet and 174 attendees, primarily driven by national association events, which made up 8.6 percent of event volume, the report said. Las Vegas remained in the top five, ranking second, supported by national association events and weddings. Across the top 25 markets, average space usage rose to 3,902 square feet with an average of 132 attendees.
