THE 3RD EDITION of the Vadilal International Gujarati Film Festival brought the red carpet to the Atlanta area on May 20 to 22. Hundreds of members of the local Gujarati community turned out for the event, which featured appearances from major stars and filmmakers straight from India. IGFF, previously held in Los Angeles and New Jersey, set up this time at the Venture Cinema in Duluth. It's mission, apart from entertainment, is to spread awareness one of India's alternatives to Bollywood. This year's festival includes 14 feature films, such as "21st Tiffin," "Divaswapna," "Dhummas," "Gandhi & Co.," "Dear Father" and "Gujarat nu Gaurav"; two documentary feature films, "Sur Shabdnu Sarnamu" and "Shrimad Rajchandra"; five documentary film, such as "Okhamandal - Ek Anokhu Andolan" and "Gandhi"; a short film, "Roha Fort - Ek Visaraati Viraasat"; and six web series, such as "Benaqaab," "Ghaat" and "Yamraj Calling."

According to the report, Labor Day, New Year's, Martin Luther King Jr Day, Memorial Day and Thanksgiving are America's most travelled holidays. AAA Travel forecast that 53.4 million Americans would travel for Thanksgiving this year, and a survey from Motel 6 found that 82 percent of holiday travelers believe it is important to spend that time with loved ones. However, another survey from the American Hotel & Lodging Association found only 29 percent of Americans are likely to travel for Thanksgiving and 33 percent are likely to travel for Christmas.

The research firm also foresees an 87.9 percent occupancy rate for the market from Friday to Sunday night, translating to a RevPAR of $504. Miami set records for the highest Super Bowl ADR and RevPAR in 2020, STR said. However, a significant difference lies in size: Las Vegas, the largest U.S. market with 393 hotels and 172,707 rooms, has more than double Miami's room inventory. "The Super Bowl's unique volume of demand, driven by not only the game but the leadup festivities, as well as the attractions Las Vegas has to offer, is the perfect recipe to drive record-breaking prices," said Chris Klauda, STR's senior director of market insights. "While the F1 Vegas Grand Prix impact was the greatest on and around the Las Vegas Strip, the reach and impact of Super Bowl LVIII will spread to areas well beyond the Strip."

PEACHTREE GROUP AIMS to expand its film financing division, Peachtree Media Partners, recently premiering its financed film "The Surfer," starring Nicholas Cage, at Cannes Film Festival. The company already financed nearly a dozen films, with investments ranging from $5 million to $50 million. Peachtree Media Partners is led by Joshua Harris as its managing partner. The firm has a more than $10 billion investment track record and targets mispriced risk in traditional opportunities, including TV and film financing, Peachtree said in a statement. "Our increased activity in movie and television financing represents a natural progression of our capabilities and interests," said Greg Friedman, Peachtree's managing principal and CEO. "We recognize the unique challenges and opportunities within the entertainment industry, especially in an era where content creation is rapidly evolving. We aim to support producers and creators with tailored financial solutions that align with their vision and project needs."

U.S. HOTEL BOOKINGS for Dec. 21-25 are up 22 percent from last year, according to SiteMinder, a hotel distribution and revenue platform. The growth is driven by international bookings, which now account for 32 percent of total bookings, up from 28 percent during the same period in 2023, a more than 15 percent annual increase. The top five markets driving this growth are Canada, Germany, the UK, France, and Italy, SiteMinder data showed. "It's pleasing to see that U.S. hotels will be enjoying their share of Christmas cheer this year," said Trent Innes, SiteMinder's chief growth officer. "Increased bookings, driven by the strong return of international travel and continued confidence among domestic travelers, are also leading to longer stays and extended lead times. These positive trends present both an opportunity and a call to action for American hoteliers to provide tailored, seamless experiences this festive season, maximizing revenue while fostering loyalty and positive reviews."
