When taking the test, you should use the default settings of the browser you are testing. Changing the zoom level, minimum font size, applying a fit-to-width algorithm, or making other changes may alter the rendition of the test page without this constituting a failure in compliance.
The Acid3 test measures some performance characteristics. The test does not attempt to make any comparisons or judgments as to the performance of any hardware used, and should not be used as a hardware benchmark. If the test is run on a slow computer or device, it may run slowly or not smoothly and this does not imply non-conformance.

A lint tool performs static analysis of source code and flags patterns that might be errors or otherwise cause problems for the developer.
CSS Lint points out problems with your CSS code. It does basic syntax checking as well as applying a set of rules to the code that look for problematic patterns or signs of inefficiency. The [rules] are all pluggable, so you can easily write your own or omit ones you don't want.

After starting the test-suite it will automatically run a large number of small tests which will determine if your browser is compatible with a large number of CSS selectors. If it is not compatible with a particular selector it is marked as such. You can click on each CSS selector to see the results, including a small example and explanation for each of tests.
Because it is technically not possible to simulate certain user interactions the test is limited to CSS selectors that are not dependent on user interactions. So this test-suite does not include tests for the following selectors: :hover, :active, :focus and :selection.
The CSS3 Playground is a web application for experimenting with some new css3 capabilities. Primarily those than conform to the progressive enhancement philosophy, which means that the styles can be used on all sites without severely changing/limiting the experience on browsers that does not support them (=Internet Explorer 8.0 and older). But there are also styles that may need better replacements on Internet Explorer such as rotation, and I hope I will have the time to add more in the future.
JSLint takes a JavaScript source and scans it. If it finds a problem, it returns a message describing the problem and an approximate location within the source. The problem is not necessarily a syntax error, although it often is. JSLint looks at some style conventions as well as structural problems. It does not prove that your program is correct. It just provides another set of eyes to help spot problems.

But it's the one job it's very good at. How does it do it? It captures spoken words and feeds them into a Voice Message Conversion System, known as 'D2' (the Brain), and spits them out as text content.
