The National Academy of the Sciences has launched this new website that gives an overview of the U.S. energy system. It covers 4 main topics: energy uses, sources of energy, the cost of energy (in terms of the environment, national security, and sustainability), and energy efficiency. The site has easy to navigate content and links to source material, and it includes n energy quiz, a glossary, and a source library. The site's producers are also developing curriculum-based materials for high school and middle school classrooms. Two special features--Our Energy System and Understasnding Efficiency--are designed to actively engage visitors and enhance their understanding of energy, including what it is, h ow we use it, and ways to conserve it.

Cover It Live is a Web-based program that allows educators to have live discussions-or chats- online for free. Many education bloggers have found the site useful because it allows them to embed discussion threads directly into a personal Web space. Rather than having to rely on a static comment thread for reader feedback, Cover It live adds a real-time element to blogging discussions. The online interface includes features that allow users to upload and share multimedia files, including videos, photos, Web links, and group polling data. I had a conversation with the bot and it is very intuitive. The dialog was about age, manners and politeness. Without computer clubs there would probably be no Apple computers. Our club in the Silicon Valley, the Homebrew Computer Club, was among the first of its kind. Don, I was really excited to see this. But, take a look at the apps in the Creating level. I think they prove my point that the ipad isn't a serious player, yet. If those are prime examples of what can be Created on the ipad, then I still say that it's not the answer to Education's persistant questions. It's a great personal device but not one for school.
