Great collaborative tool to brainstorm, generate and organize student's ideas

Mind-mapping is a great process, and this publisher offers several of the best tools I've come across. But one downside: unless you can find someone else to pay for it, it's $40 (gulp).

Slack Is an app that's main goal is to better teacher collaboration and communication. Similiar to twitter, Slack used mentions and hashtags to organize and catagorize conversations or threads around groups or themes.

StudyBlue is a digital flashcard system that allows you to not o my make your own flash cards, but share them with your classmates. Teachers can get in on the action by creating groups to share cards amongst students

ClassDojo is a safe and simple communication app that builds a classroom community for teachers, parents and students. aesthetically pleasing and user friendly, ClassDojo allows for teachers to track student behavior (in which students can work as a team to earn points overall and even earn points on a personal basis) as well as keep track of seating.

Hall offers a detailed theoretical and semiotic analysis of the processes by which messages are encoded into media by the creators and decoded by the consumers. He provides a vocabulary for naming the different phases of message production and reception, and a theoretical framework for understanding how they operate. While this text might be considered too dense for many high school students, the ideas themselves are not, and a shared familiarity with these ideas creates a firm foundation on which to build future discussions of how media operates and how to discern even the most deeply coded messages and biases.

Short Description: Symbaloo is a social bookmarking tool through which teachers can share their favorite web resources. In addition to organizing homework, lesson plans, and administrative paperwork all in one place (among other features), Symbaloo allows teachers to create "webmixes" consisting of links and sources for particular subjects and/or topics. For students, it's a useful tool for gathering content for research and maintaining that content in one common area, rather than searching all over the Web. Examples of Uses: Teachers can use Symbaloo to organize websites and databases which are reliable and trustworthy for their students. Teachers can post links to sources of information which they deem credible and useful, thus saving time and energy for their students. Teachers can also review the websites that their students find and share to their own personalized learning spaces.

myshadow.org provides a good introduction to digital footprints/shadows, offering some tools that can be used to control one's footprint and a substantial knowledge-base of how-to's and information on subscriber agreements.

The archives includes Internet web pages, in addition to the digital forms of books/texts, audio recordings, videos, images, and software programs. Examples of Uses: Educators can use WaybackMachine to demonstrate the permanence of Internet activity to their students. Particularly with social media postings, educators can show their students that websites are archived and accessible in earlier versions, providing some insight and clarity to the "Delete" or "Remove" buttons that students believe are so reliable. In doing so, students can understand how difficult and impossible it is in most situations to erase their digital footprint.
