Don't Judge a Book By Its Cover: Tech-Savvy Teens Remain Fans of Print Books - 12 views

  •
With today's rapidly evolving technology and ever-present social media changing the way consumers are connecting with the written word, it should come as no surprise that today's teens are finding and consuming content differently from previous generations. But while we typically associate these youthful consumers with being early adopters of new technology and digital content platforms, the reading habits of those aged 13-17 are a mix of old and new.

6 Tech Skills Expected of Incoming HS Freshmen - 39 views

  •
Here is my very modest proposal: we pick the top "ICT skills" that classroom teachers should be able to expect of all students and design short, authentic tasks that can be easily assessed. If each core classroom teacher gives and evaluates one skill at the beginning of the freshman year, a profile of every student can be compiled and remediation can be provided through classes taught by the librarian.

  • providing and promoting high interest materials at a variety of reading levels that meet a variety of developmental needs, we will create kids who not only can read by want to read.
  • ...6 more annotations...
  • in schools where there is no separate "technology integration specialist" available to students and teachers. This is also more prevelant at the secondary level.
  • An increasing number of schools seem to be emphasising technology as a focus
  • teach the educational application of technology tools, not just the applications themselves
  • our programs acknowledge our roles as reading and tech teachers, but we empahsis the application of these skills in an IL model that helps solve real problems and answer genuine questions.
  • the larger the information literacy bubble, the more opportunity library media specialists and teacher will have to address these areas both formally and informally
  • The best library program is the one that best supports the needs and goals of its school. It doesn't get much simpler than that.
