I'm sure we all remember learning cursive for a year in elementary school, and I bet the majority of us haven't written it since. What do you think about the new Common Core standards eliminating cursive from the curriculum? How big of an impact do you think it has on the next generation of kids?

I understand where the writer is coming from when they say that it's a little off putting to see the more mature term versus the more childish one, but is it really that big a deal what the labeling of a bathroom is? Yes, high school is a transitioning time between childhood and adulthood, and it's sometimes difficult to figure out which one you want to be labeled as, but if the issue of a bathroom sign is really bothering people, then their priorities are a little off. When I first came to Tam and saw one door reading "Women" and one reading "Girls", of course I was confused, but I wasn't angry. I just assumed the Women's was for staff and the Girl's was for students. This article is pointless and seems to stir up an issue that was never there in the first place.

It was interesting reading this article and seeing all the things that the author brought up that related to Tam, and what didn't. Not surprisingly, a lot of what she said paralleled how prom is here. Like Declan said, we are among the more wealthier areas and when it comes to prom, we spend a ton of money, especially girls (like Simmons said) on dresses and makeup and hair and rides. I don't think however, that we've followed the rest of the country's footsteps concerning extreme promposals and wearing knock-off red carpet gowns. But her opinion of a girl's position during prom seems almost spot on. I haven't gone to prom yet, but I know people who have and I can only imagine the stress and anxiety they feel going into it and the cost of it. I also agree with Ariana that the author is biased, but this is titled as an Opinion column, and I think she has an interesting perspective on the subject.

Although the FBI was involved in the facilitation of child pornography, I think it's an effective way to deal with pedophiles. The issue of child pornography can barely be looked at as ethical, so how can the solution be? I think that although it may not be the most ethical way to find pedophiles, it does seem effective, and that's what the goal should be. It's important that these creeps are caught so they can't lure more kids into their vans, and this seems like a decent way to do that.
