While I think if we ban any other drug we should ban tobacco, I don't think discriminatory policy will help.

I think the regulation restriction speaks for itself, no matter what the age limit teenagers will find a way to get the product. It's the same way they get drugs and alcohol, changing the age limit wont be affective instead money needs to be put into educating teenagers on use of the products.

I think that this is a well-intentioned proposal, but one that will ultimately have little effect. Just as kids here in Marin have no trouble getting their hands on alcohol and tobacco, so to will underage smokers be able to get cigarettes in NYC if they really want them. Additionally, it seems absolutely unacceptable that someone who is old enough to vote and go to war would be unable to smoke a cigarette if it were their choice.

While this change does have good intentions, like others have noted, it will probably have little effect to teens still smoking. If teens have been smoking for a year or more, they're most likely addicted and will have to find another way to get the tobacco products. It is very similar to alcohol and how teenagers have such an easy way to get alcohol (at least in Marin).

I dont think the amount of teen smokers will change because of this law. It's very easy for teenagers to get tobacco products, and once you turn 18 you are fully an adult so I think 18 year olds should be able to make this choice for themselves. Maybe a better option would be to make more cigarettes with lowered amounts of nicotine?

I don't agree that the age should be changed to 21 but I do believe that the tobacco and drinking age should be the same. It has good intentions but when people turn 18 and become an adult they are responsible for themselves and I don't think changing the tobacco age would stop people from still getting it. Underage people have found a way to get it regardless, so even if the age was changed an 18 year old would still ask a 22 year old to get it for him. Nothing would change.

While Tobacco is a drug and needs to be used responsibly and with discretion changing it to 21 will do nothing but create a market for people to supply to minors as well make it more of a "dangerous" thing that kids will want to try like alcohol or marijuana. Brain development stops at 25 so it makes zero sense that you would change it to 21.
