I've been on about this ever since I studied Google in 2001: Media traditionally has gained its profits by owning distribution. Cable carriage, network airwaves, newsstand distribution and printing presses: all very expensive, so once you employ enough capital to gain them, it's damn hard to get knocked out.

E-book reading devices are not a great achievement nowadays, but how many of them can really give you the feeling of reading a traditional book? The innovative LIBRARY e-book reader concept effectively meets the issue with its mechanical rollers along with lively page flipping animation on the screen that gives readers the feel of flipping through pages with their thumbs. The multi-touch display allows the readers to underline the book’s content with their fingers and can make bookmarks with simple gestures. The edge of the device will show the bookmarks that can be found easily when the book is open and are visible even when the user closes the book. To access the entire e-book collection, the users have to open the backside of the book. Moreover, the device features a ‘keyboard’ mode to search for book titles which can be enabled by turning the device to 90 degrees.

Rumor: 22" touch computer coming from Appleby Dave Caolo (RSS feed) on Jan 18th 2010 at 10:30AMIt's Monday, January 18th and we've got more tablet rumors than Tony Romo's got bruises. This time, a report comes from the Chinese publication Commercial Times (via DigiTimes), stating that Apple will launch a 22", touch-enabled all-in-one computer before the year's end. This rumor amounts to little more than that sentence, but we assume that something that large won't be meant for carrying around. Instead, think of an iMac with a Troll Touch display (above), or something like the HP Touchsmart line. On one hand, it makes sense. If the tablet proves as popular as the iPod touch and iPhone, why wouldn't Apple extend the touch screen to the rest of its lineup? On the other hand, no one wants to hold their arm in mid-air all day long like this guy. We'll have to keep an eye on this one. Oh, Apple. Just release the darn thing and make the rumors stop!

Now that Apple has chosen the famously awkward name “iPad” for its tablet, the most obvious candidate “iTablet” is up for grabs. Sure enough, a UK company is leaping at the opportunity.

X2 is happy to announce it’s “hot on the heels of Apple’s latest product launch” with the iTablet, which will run Windows 7 and Linux. The iTablet will ship April in two screen sizes — 10.2 inches and 10.7 inches — with a 1,024-by-768 resolution TFT touchscreen (multitouch optional).
