Flip Through Pages with Innovative E-Book Reader Concept LIBRARY | Tuvie - Industrial D... - 0 views

  • E-book reading devices are not a great achievement nowadays, but how many of them can really give you the feeling of reading a traditional book? The innovative LIBRARY e-book reader concept effectively meets the issue with its mechanical rollers along with lively page flipping animation on the screen that gives readers the feel of flipping through pages with their thumbs. The multi-touch display allows the readers to underline the book’s content with their fingers and can make bookmarks with simple gestures. The edge of the device will show the bookmarks that can be found easily when the book is open and are visible even when the user closes the book. To access the entire e-book collection, the users have to open the backside of the book. Moreover, the device features a ‘keyboard’ mode to search for book titles which can be enabled by turning the device to 90 degrees.

Spotlight on Mirasol: Qualcomm's Full Color E-Paper - Epaper Central - 0 views

  • The future for e-paper is away from e-readers. It’s more for multi-purpose devices, for outdoor advertisement, for netbooks and all sorts of new and interesting technology. Right now e-readers are the hot item, but in the future, once books have finally moved on from analogue to digital, e-paper will need to expand and adapt to multi-purpose devices. And Qualcomm thinks it has the key- it’s full color, low power, fast and versatile Mirasol display technology.

Design - Apple's Eagerly Anticipated Tablet Computer Could Have Big Impact on Design Wo... - 1 views

  • But if the iSlate is another of the company’s successes, it promises to have as much impact as the iPhone, if not more.
  • Apple may be a late entrant to the market, but there is no reason to believe that its designers won’t be able to replicate their past success at battling against the laws of physics to produce a tablet that’s sleeker, lighter and generally hotter than anyone else’s, so much so that people will be willing to pay more for it.
  • Like many new digital devices, it will combine several products in one.
  • ...2 more annotations...
  • Many people like their e-readers (not least because they save them from having to haul around books, newspapers and magazines) but I’ve yet to meet anyone who loves them. That’s the key. If a really great e-reader appeared, the market would explode. The e-reader is waiting for a killer product, just as the MP3 player was before Apple’s iPod. Apple didn’t invent the MP3 player, it made such a sexy one that many more people wanted to buy it. That’s what it is promising to do again.
  • If it comes through, demand for electronic books, newspapers and magazines should soar.

" Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer tonight demoed some of the first Slate PC tablets running Windows 7 at his press day keynote at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show. In addition to an Archos tablet that has already been shown, Balmer unveiled a prototype of HP's upcoming Slate PC, which remained unnamed, showing, ironically, Amazon's Kindle application, positioning the tablet as a competitor to Amazon's own E-Ink Kindle device. Apple may wipe slate clean for new tablet computer - AP News Wire, Associated Press New... - 1 views

Apple has a knack for spotting problems we didn't know we had. It can leave us wondering how we survived without vast libraries of music and TV shows in our pockets or the comfort of knowing "there's an app for that." Now, speculation is growing that in two weeks Apple will unveil a tablet-style touch-screen computer that is bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a standard laptop. If indeed that is Apple's next move -- the company won't comment -- it would have to show us why we ought to pay for yet another Internet-connected screen, on top of the TVs, computers and smart phones we already have.

IEEE Spectrum: The iPad is Not A Kindle Killer; Blame the Display - 0 views

  •
"The iPad, the much-anticipated Apple tablet computer announced today, is not going to revolutionize the display industry. It doesn't sport a bright OLED display; it isn't wearing the latest Pixel Qi technology that combines normal transmissive LCD technology with a black-and-white reflective version for easy viewing in bright sunlight."
