iCade: Spoof Arcade Cabinet for iPad | Gadget Lab | Wired.com - 0 views

  • iPad gets its turn with the iCade Arcade Cabinet, a kind of retro dock with old-style arcade joysticks and mashable buttons. It’s gorgeous, and despite its phantom status, I want one.
  • he iCade’s fantasy specs go like this: you slide the iPad in and it becomes the brains and the display of the cabinet. You would then run old arcade games in emulation, games like Donkey Kong, Dig Dug and the frankly awesome-looking Super Steve Bros (Jobs and Wozniak vs. Ballmer), with the cabinet controls talking to the iPad through the 30-pin connector.

Apple's growing pains, culture of secrecy and the iPad - 1 views

  •
"On Saturday, when you plug in your shiny new iPad and peruse the App Store for apps, you'll see 'HD' or 'XL' designations for iPad-specific apps. You may wonder what that's all about. It's about a lack of solid information, driven by a top-down policy of secrecy. When a company like Apple fosters a culture of anxiety amongst third-party associates and low-level employees, you're going to wind up with some bad decisions being made in the absence of clear policies. True, the iPad offers more pixels than the iPhone, but it is hardly "HD" (whatever that means to begin with). Clearly, these suffixes are designed to let you know that they are "jumbo" versions of apps with more features than their iPhone companions, right? That may not be the case. While they might be bigger, they may not be badder. In fact, they may be more stripped down than their developers intended."

Mine's been shipped. Can't wait to get it, ... probably on Sat., HD or XL, or whatever! This is going to be the biggest hit in computers, ever. Pennsylvania University is ordering one for every student in the university. It's so cheap for what the consumer is getting, that it will be the best way to search the Internet and device for speedily accessing all manner of stuff that all of us have ongoing on the Internet. Yippee!

I Don't Like The iPad Because... - John Battelle's Searchblog - 0 views

  • ...it's driven by the same old media love affair with distribution lock in. I've been on about this ever since I studied Google in 2001: Media traditionally has gained its profits by owning distribution. Cable carriage, network airwaves, newsstand distribution and printing presses: all very expensive, so once you employ enough capital to gain them, it's damn hard to get knocked out.

UK Company Launches iTablet | Gadget Lab | Wired.com - 0 views

  • Now that Apple has chosen the famously awkward name “iPad” for its tablet, the most obvious candidate “iTablet” is up for grabs. Sure enough, a UK company is leaping at the opportunity.
  • X2 is happy to announce it’s “hot on the heels of Apple’s latest product launch” with the iTablet, which will run Windows 7 and Linux. The iTablet will ship April in two screen sizes — 10.2 inches and 10.7 inches — with a 1,024-by-768 resolution TFT touchscreen (multitouch optional).
