Michael Gove speaks to the Schools Network - The Department for Education - 0 views

  • A big part of this has involved reducing central government prescription for all schools to make heads' and teachers' lives easier and give them the space to focus on what really matters.
  • Overall, our vision for the future is of a self-improving network of schools, innovating and engaging, competing and collaborating, teaching and training, for the benefit of all our children.
  • And yet there is a perception by some that my department isn't especially concerned about such things. That we care more about Tennyson than technology. That our interest is in Ibsen, not iTunes. That we're more Kubla Khan than Khan Academy. This couldn't be further from the truth. I am absolutely committed to ensuring that our school system not only prepares pupils for this changing world, but also embraces the technological advances which are transforming education. My department is thinking hard about this and we'll be saying more in the new year.

Schumacher College: What is Deep Ecology? - 0 views

  •
The Deep Ecology Platform 1. All life has value in itself, independent of its usefulness to humans. 2. Richness and diversity contribute to life's well-being and have value in themselves. 3. Humans have no right to reduce this richness and diversity except to satisfy vital needs in a responsible way. 4. The impact of humans in the world is excessive and rapidly getting worse. 5. Human lifestyles and population are key elements of this impact. 6. The diversity of life, including cultures, can flourish only with reduced human impact. 7. Basic ideological, political, economic and technological structures must therefore change. 8. Those who accept the forgoing points have an obligation to participate in implementing the necessary changes and to do so peacefully and democratically.

Embercombe is a charity and social enterprise established \nto champion a way of living that celebrates the opportunities inherent in this \nchallenging time and that inspires people to energetically contribute towards \nthe emergence of a socially just, environmentally sustainable and spiritually \nfulfilling human presence on earth.\n\nIt is our view that humanity now stands at a cross-roads - \na defining time in which we will make choices that will greatly influence our \ncollective future, for better or worse. We have become so numerous, so \nindustrious, so ambitious, and so technologically powerful, that we have the \ncapacity to orchestrate the destruction of our species, habitat, and future. We \nalso possess the imagination, the vision, and the intellect to learn from \nexperience, meet our challenges, and build a positive, sustainable future. A \nradical shift in awareness, values, and behaviour is required to meet this \ncritical transition.
