Elizabet Sahtouris: The biology of Globalisation " All living systems self-organize and maintain themselves by the same biological principles, which we can identify and abstract. Among the principles essential to the health of living systems are empowered participation of all parts and continual negotiation of self-interest at all levels of organization. Humanity constitutes a living system within the larger living system of our Earth. Essential to the health of humanity is empowered participation of all humans and negotiated self-interest among individual, local and global economies as well as the Earth itself."

Michael Gove speaks to the Schools Network - The Department for Education - 0 views

  • A big part of this has involved reducing central government prescription for all schools to make heads' and teachers' lives easier and give them the space to focus on what really matters.
  • Overall, our vision for the future is of a self-improving network of schools, innovating and engaging, competing and collaborating, teaching and training, for the benefit of all our children.
  • And yet there is a perception by some that my department isn't especially concerned about such things. That we care more about Tennyson than technology. That our interest is in Ibsen, not iTunes. That we're more Kubla Khan than Khan Academy. This couldn't be further from the truth. I am absolutely committed to ensuring that our school system not only prepares pupils for this changing world, but also embraces the technological advances which are transforming education. My department is thinking hard about this and we'll be saying more in the new year.

  • a genuine engagement with the wondrous world of technological innovation will see children's learning 'liberated from the dead hand of the past.' We owe it to pupils across the country to take this issue seriously.

Dec 1st speech , worth a read. Look out for promises in New Year. Strange how short memories are about changes brought in by Tatcher Gov't based on National Curriculum advocated by Callaghan!

An inspiring visit to Holland - Ellen MacArthur Foundation - 0 views

  • I felt a difference in Holland with the most surprising part being the language used around the subject. Merieke van der Werf, a politician from Amsterdam, talked about not just improving the current industrial system to be a bit more efficient, but redesigning how it worked so that it actually had a positive impact.
  • I absolutely love their thinking, which turns everything on its head.

"You can have places where you cannot build a school. More commonly you can have schools in places where good teachers do not want to go. So what do you do? You still have children there who need and want to learn. That is the issue that Sugata Mitra is trying to solve with his latest experiment, the Granny Cloud."
