The American Journal of Distance Education is the internationally recognized journal of research and scholarship in the field of American distance education. Distance education explores topics central to teaching-learning relationships where the actors are geographically separated and communication takes place through technologies such as audio and video broadcasts, teleconferences and recordings, printed study guides, and multimedia systems. The principal technology of current research interest is the Internet, and subfields of distance education such as online learning, e-learning, distributed learning, asynchronous learning, and blended learning are of particular interest to the journal.

Learning, Media and Technology - incorporating Education, Communication & Information - is an international, peer-reviewed journal that aims to stimulate debate on the interaction of innovations in educational theory and practices, with media and educational technologies. Media and technologies are interpreted in the broadest sense, to encompass digital broadcasting, the internet and online resources, and other new and emerging formats, as well as the traditional media of print, broadcast television and radio.

When reality is labeled unthinkable, it creates a kind of sickness in an industry. Leadership becomes faith-based, while employees who have the temerity to suggest that what seems to be happening is in fact happening are herded into Innovation Departments, where they can be ignored en masse. This shunting aside of the realists in favor of the fabulists has different effects on different industries at different times. One of the effects on the newspapers is that many of their most passionate defenders are unable, even now, to plan for a world in which the industry they knew is visibly going away.

We draw together people who teach, research, and use information technologies to inform clients (regardless of academic discipline) to share their knowledge with others. Our mission has components both of production and retroduction. All our publications are available free online to everyone regardless of membership status. Our publications are also available in print at very reasonable prices. We are not a publishing company disguised as a professional organization nor are we a clique of insiders.
