The Nifty - 50 was at 7,779, up by 47 pts or 0.62 per-cent. It reached a high of 7,792.55 & then a low of 7,768.50 in the early 30 minutes of trade. The 30-share index was trading at 25,645, went up 162 pts or 0.64 per-cent. It reached a high of 25,680.76 and a low of 25,616.33 in morning session. BSE S&P Smallcap Index was trading 0.84 per-cent higher & the S&P BSE Midcap Index went up 0.77 %.

Today, the S&P BSE Sensex started on a cautious note tracking muted trend seen in other Asian markets. The fell down in the index was led by losses in ITC, HDFC BankBSE -0.61%, RILBSE -0.63%, Sun Pharma & HDFC Bank.Click here

Today 's market update : The S&P BSE Sensex opening on a cautious note with a negative bias followed by muted trend seen in other Asian markets and losses seen in index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank,ITC, Tata Motors, HDFC & TCS.

The markets opened in the negative territory today. At present, both the indices are trading very flat with the Sensex down 11 points at 15959 and Nifty down by 3 points at 4775. Banking stocks were under selling pressure, falling nearly 0.5 per cent. Auto and FMCG stocks also traded lower.

The Sensex is up 109.68 points or 0.5 percent at 27754.83, and the Nifty is up 33.95 points or 0.4 percent at 8352.35. The Indian rupee opened higher by 8 paise at 63.76 per dollar on Tuesday against previous closing of 63.84.

The 30-share index was trading at 24,932 down 111 pts or 0.45 per-cent. It reached a high of 24,949.39 & a low of 24,867.73 in early morning trade.

The extension of trading hours might not become a reality anytime soon as the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), stock exchanges and brokers were yet to agree on how it would be implemented, said three officials with direct knowledge of the matter.
