The markets opened in the negative territory today. At present, both the indices are trading very flat with the Sensex down 11 points at 15959 and Nifty down by 3 points at 4775. Banking stocks were under selling pressure, falling nearly 0.5 per cent. Auto and FMCG stocks also traded lower.

The Sensex jumped 140.23 points or 0.54 per-cent to 25978.94 while the Nifty jumped 40.30 points or 0.51 per-cent to 7901.35. Around 489 shares declined, 1327 shares have advanced and 118 shares are same on the BSE in morning.

Crude oil futures tanked around 4 per-cent in the native market on Friday last week as investors and speculators resorted to heavy selling after the OPEC, the cartel that accounts for around 40 per-cent of world wide crude supplies, refused to curb production to alleviate a supply glut.

Midcaps have mobilize while blue chips underperformed sharply, & investors who chose midcaps have made double the returns when compared with that of large caps. Today, the 30-share index was trading at 25,965,went up 5 points or 0.02 per-cent. It reached a high of 26000.24 & a low of 25,953.25 in early morning trade.

Today 's market update : The S&P BSE Sensex opening on a cautious note with a negative bias followed by muted trend seen in other Asian markets and losses seen in index heavyweights such as ICICI Bank,ITC, Tata Motors, HDFC & TCS.

The edible oil industry has endorsed the govt to increase the import duty on both crude & refined oil, along with setting aside a portion of the revenue earned to set up an Oilseeds Development Fund to increase native production.

Market updates : The Sensex was trading at 25,681, went down 204 pts or 0.79 per-cent. It attained a high of 26,810.06 and a low of 25,644.35 in early morning trade. The Nifty50 was at 7,801, went down 62 pts or 0.80 per-cent. It attained a high of 7,819.25 & a low of 7,787.70 in the first 30 mins of trade.

Crude oil prices expanded gains on Friday, as the dollar slumped as compared to the euro, although market focus is fixed on an OPEC meeting in Vienna where the group is hope to reiterate its high output strategy.

Today, Crude oil futures plummeted over 1 per-cent in the native market while tumbling to a 6 year low in the overseas market as investors, observers and speculators regained to a heavy sell-off in the energy commodity amidst continued fears that a global oil glut may exacerbate due to the fallout of the OPEC's decision to maintain production at high levels, and sluggish world wide growth of economy which may weaken requirement.

The 30-share index was trading at 24,932 down 111 pts or 0.45 per-cent. It reached a high of 24,949.39 & a low of 24,867.73 in early morning trade.

Today, Pricers Castorseed fell down by 1.06 per-cent at the National Commodity & Derivatives Exchange Limited (NCDEX) as a result of fresh supply of the commodity in the major mandies as well as strong production estimates.

FOMC - Closing months of speculation, observation and for the 1st time in the decade, the US Fed Reserve's rate-setting Fed Open Market Committee (FOMC) increased its Fed Funds Rate by 25 basis pts from the 0-0.25 per-cent range to a target of 0.25-0.5 per-cent.
