STOCK MARKET REVIEW: 9TH APRIL 2012 BSE Small-Cap index was down by 0.65% while the BSE Mid-Cap index finished 1.35% down.CNX MIDCAP 50 index was down 1.90% and S&P CNX 500 was down around 1.66%. The SENSEX closed 264 points down at 17,221 and the NIFTY stood at 5234, down by 88 points. BSE SENSEX and NIFTY crashed by 1.51 percent and 1.66 percent respectively on the very opening session of the week after a long weekend. Markets traded more over the global sentiments than to the local ends as lower than expected non-farm and pay roll data presented by U.S worried over the total economy growth. Today, Sensex breaks at 25000, the market expanded losses in morning trading session with the Sensex breaking at 25000, down by 410.08 pts or 1.61 per-cent to 24996.25.

The key domestic benchmarks trimmed some of their earlier gains but were still trading higher today tracking a strong rally in Asian stock markets which rose as speculation of a Spanish bailout and upbeat US data lifted sentiment, spurring demand for risky assets. Stocks rose after Germany signaled that it is open to the idea of Spain seeking funding from Europe's bailout funds, easing concerns over Europe's debt turmoil. Robust US corporate earnings and a rebound in US industrial production last month signaled a pickup in the world's largest economy, bolstering sentiment. Today, The S&P BSE Sensex unlocked on a flat note in morning trade, led by gains in HDFC, ITC, HDFC, Tata Motors and Bharti Airtel. The Nifty50 unlocked flat, but was still trading above its critical support level of 7,900, supported by gains in power, metal, realt, and capital goods stocks.

The Nifty -50 managed to quickly recoup early morning losses to regain its critical psychological level of 8K, supported by gains in pharma IT, banks, consumer durable, capital goods & power stocks. Nifty futures updates : Today, Sensex was trading near 25,713, went up by 90 points or 0.35 per-cent. It attained a high of 25,766.76 & a low of 25,697.22 in early morning trade.

Today, Sensex slided over 200 pts tracking weak cues from other Asian markets on Wednesday, led by losses in ITCBSE -1.91 %, SBI, ICICI BankBSE -1.78 %, L&T, and RILBSE -0.74 %.

BSE Sensex rallied as many as 217 points in intraday trade, but pared most of the gains in last hour of trade to close at 25,868, up 0.10 per cent, or 27 points. The 50-stock barometer Nifty 50 earned 14 pts, or 0.18 per-cent, at 7,856. Top gainers includes Gail and Wipro on the BSE benchmark.

Market updates : The Sensex was trading at 25,681, went down 204 pts or 0.79 per-cent. It attained a high of 26,810.06 and a low of 25,644.35 in early morning trade. The Nifty50 was at 7,801, went down 62 pts or 0.80 per-cent. It attained a high of 7,819.25 & a low of 7,787.70 in the first 30 mins of trade.

Brokers said participants adopted a cautious approach and trimmed their positions ahead of wholesale inflation data for September, to be released later in the day and Q2 earnings by Reliance Industries, which has significant influence over 30-share Sensex. Reliance Industries has slashed its budget for developing the three main oil- and gas- producing areas in its showcase Andhra offshore field by $3 billion, citing an unexpected fall in reserves, sources told optiontips.in India plans to relax rules for oil and gas exploration licences in time for the next bidding round, in a move to attract global companies.
