    This exert is specifically from the VA handbook in regards to supervision specifically for health professionals and trainees. This resource provides a strict breakdown of the supervision requirements for supervisors and trainees. It is clear through this policy that strict guidelines are to be followed within this system and this is what I have experienced in my time there. I was intrigued however, that supervisory roles are seen as an educational experience. The following tenet was the first under supervisor regulation--" Supervision is an educational experience provided by a qualified supervising practitioner with a trainee. This relationship is evaluative, extends over time, and has the simultaneous purposes of enhancing the professional functioning of the trainee while monitoring the quality of services delivered. Supervision is provided through observation, consultation, directing the learning and activities of the trainee, and role modeling". I feel that this really stressing the educational importance of being a supervisor.

    This article aimed to draw together findings based on the experiences of supervisors and supervisees in the discipline of occupational therapy (Sweeney et al 2001a,b) and to provide recommendations for the future practice of supervision within the profession. Results discussed suggest that supervision as it is currently practiced within OT is not a comfortable experience for either the supervisor or the supervisee; there is evidence that a confusion exists within both parties about the process of supervision and questions the view that supervision is always a helpful process. The article recommends steps that can be adopted by both (supervisors and supervisees) to facilitate the development of a more productive relationship. For example, the use of training, exposure to theories and models of supervision, and the use of agendas, contracts and feedback have shown to be helpful in the improvement.

This article highlights several components that we need to consider as we enter the profession and are able to supervise students on their level I and level II fieldwork experiences.

    As we will most likely all be asked one day if we wish to take on a fieldwork student, this article is good to bring up some of the positives as well as downsides associated with being a fieldwork educator. It can certainly be a rewarding and educating experience for both student and supervisor and I feel like we owe it to the profession to take on a student.

    This document provides a definition for supervision: viewed as a cooperative process in which two or more people participate in a joint effort to establish, maintain and or elevate the level of competence and performance. The authors add that supervision is based on a mutual understanding between the supervisor and supervisee about each other's competence, experience, education and credentials. For me, it was interesting that the authors indicated that supervision is supposed to promote growth, encourage creativity and innovation. Thus, if your relationship with your supervisor does not reflect this then you may want to meet and discuss this document.

It is broken down into four sections which cover general supervision, supervision of OTs and OTAs, roles and responsibilities, and supervision of OT aides. Supervision is defined at a joint effort to establish, maintain, or elevate competence and performance. The article urges OTs to seek mentorship as supervision to maintain competency and increase knowledge. Delegation of tasks to OTAs by OTs should be done with regard to the complexity of the client's needs/the intervention technique, the practice setting, and state/agency requirements.

The author states that this sort of professional supervision is important to become a well rounded practitioner that the patience best interest in mind.

    This article talks about supervision and occupational therapy students. This study investigated fieldwork supervisors' perspectives about the benefits and challenges of providing fieldwork placements, explore the potential link between providing student placements and later workforce recruitment and document currently employed models of fieldwork supervision. This study looked at 132 surveys. The results showed a strong link between supervision and later recruitment of fieldwork students, suggesting that supervision of students is of considerable advantage to the host organizations in the recruitment of appropriately prepared employees.

This article briefly outlines a protocol developed by the Sullivan Luallin Group to help healthcare personnel demonstrate a higher level of professionalism when interacting with patients. The C.L.E.A.R. protocol stands for connect, listen, explain, ask, and re-connect, and serves to provide professionals with guidance concerning proper ways to provide services to patients. The conclusion of the article outlines specific techniques to utilize in order to address each aspect of the C.L.E.A.R. protocol in order to render a higher level of professionalism within the field of occupational therapy.

    This article outlines a study that evaluated the effects of having a fieldwork student on the overall productivity of the supervisor. I found this article very interesting, because I know that in my setting, once the students are able to solo with clients, the productivity increased, but I can see that this may not always be the case, and that it is probably likely the opposite during the beginning of a fieldwork students rotation.
