"As I think that leaders should be able to describe what they are looking for in schools I have thought of eight things that I really want to see in today's classroom. I really believe that classrooms need to be learner focused. This is not simply that students are creating but that they are also having opportunities to follow their interests and explore passions. The teacher should embody learning as well."

"When it comes to public education, 2013 is likely to be a year of new thinking, from innovative approaches to classroom technology to a potentially game-changing decision by the Supreme Court on affirmative action. States and school districts will continue to struggle with the recession's fiscal fallout, even as demands for more programs and services -- including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) initiatives, extended learning time, and early childhood education -- increase."
"So I think Bloom's is like a beehive. The student is the bee and enters at Create. That bee flies up, down, and around the hive to complete the assignment, and leaves as it finishes the creation of the assignment. The beehive is big enough to handle all the information that a student needs. Schoolwork should be like the hive. The assignment is general enough like a research paper but all those bees will create in their own way. So inside the hive there are lots of combs instead of one worksheet and one answer. To take the metaphor all the way home, sources are like the flowers. Students have a wealth to choose from to create. And honey, is good for everyone."
"It gives me hope for quality classroom instruction in elementary mathematics.
Be sure to notice the transition to a new task at the 4-minute mark, and how the teacher deals with the struggle that occurs at the 6-minute mark.
Also please look in the kids' eyes. Watch their body language and their waving hands. Watch them think.
Kids are practicing facts in this classroom. The teacher is providing instruction. Contrast with this (which is not a joke).
You can flip this latter instructional sequence because it involves telling and choral response."
"When engaged in project-based, collaborative learning, I think the three most important phrases to remember are: improvise, learn the hard way, and don't regret."
"Of course, if instructional coaching is going to be effective, coaches need to partner with teachers to provide the supports that empower teachers to implement new practices in a way that gets results. But we make a big mistake, I think, if we assume this means that teachers must mindlessly follow a script."

"In an environment of tight resources, tough academic challenges, and increasingly stiff competition from new education providers, smart leadership may matter more than ever for the success of America's school districts. "People change what they do less because they are given analysis that shifts their thinking, than because they are shown a truth that influences their feelings."
"This story and video has been making the rounds on Twitter and I finally got a chance to watch it and then explore further. Each video is about 15 minutes, but I think they're worth your time. Here's the video that accompanied the Washington Post story:"
" In order to help educators integrate iPads effectively, we have compiled a list of apps focused on learning goals consistent with the CRCD framework. While many of these apps have also appeared in our iPads in the Classroom section, this list is driven by specific learning goals that promote critical-thinking, creativity, collaboration, and the creation of student-centric learning environments.
