It's the Pedagogy, Stupid: Lessons from an iPad Lending Program - 0 views

  •
"The truth is that the iPad is not destined to change the face of education. Nor is it just an expensive toy bought only by Apple fanboys, as some anti-Apple bloggers hyperbolize. It's a tool, like any other, and in the classroom it must always be thought of as being in the service of pedagogy. The pedagogical foundations must be solid, because the tool will achieve no heights the underlying pedagogy will not support. "

SpeEdChange: Changing Pedagogy vs. Teacher Identity - 0 views

  •
Today, education is caught in the trap which suffocated medicine 150 years ago. Pedagogy and the structure of schooling does not change because so many of those who practice and lead it refuse to confront their egos and their self-images - and this ranges from the teacher who still uses worksheets and grades compliance to Arne Duncan, Michael Gove, and even Barack Obama. And the result is... we are "killing" kids - both figuratively and literally. Educators get caught in an awful "Anti-Virtuous" Cycle. So many did well in traditional schools for very traditional reasons. They were born to wealth and privilege, or they were born to educationally successful families. And/or, they simply are the kind of student "school" - that culture of compliance and passivity - enables."

"Every educator, from kindergarten to graduate school, should contribute to the important and significant work of teaching students to use online sources and social networks for educational and professional goals. To ignore the technology, or assume that our students already know it because they use it every day, is to participate in educational malpractice. "

How Shadowing my 2nd-grader Led to a New View of Tech in the Classroom | Profession | H... - 0 views

"It's been a long time since I was in the second grade, and as I sat through his day, I was very impressed with the level of preparation and organization the teachers exhibited. Some things were the same: the teachers were engaging and exciting, there was a lot of activity, and the kids were overwhelmingly nice, but there were also a few things that were completely new -- like the use of technology. How a Radical New Teaching Method Could Unleash a Generation of Geniuses | Wired Busine... - 0 views

"But these examples-involving only thousands of students-are the exceptions to the rule. The system as a whole educates millions and is slow to recognize or adopt successful innovation. It's a system that was constructed almost two centuries ago to meet the needs of the industrial age. Now that our society and economy have evolved beyond that era, our schools must also be reinvented. For the time being, we can see what the future looks like in places like Juárez Correa's classroom. We can also see that change will not come easily. "
