"This 9-channel sound, light & smoke installation was created in collaboration with the independent sonic arts collective Call & Response, Sep 2015 London Subterraneous takes the work of seventeenth century alchemist and scientist Athanasius Kircher as inspiration. Kircher was a polymath and inventor, who researched fields as diverse as medicine and Egyptology, and designed and constructed wondrous sound and vision automatons. These included a collection of so called speaking statues whose spiral mouths would lead out into the streets of Rome like giant trumpets. In this way the speaking trumpets or 'hearing lens' would reveal the cacophony of Rome to the listener. London Subterraneous aims to link Kircher's 'speaking trumpets' with his fascination of geology and underground reverberations and find a way to explore London's mundus subterraneous For this project, special microphones have been used to access sounds from a series of "stink pipes" that connect the city's familiar terrestrial environment to a lesser-known complex network of sewers and rivers below. The towering, hollow pipes, now rusting fixtures dotted across London erected as safety valves to vent excess toxic gases along a newly built Victorian sewer network in the 1860's allow us to connect through our past and eavesdrop on the capital's underground world. The resultant exhibition is a portrait of some of the sounds created below ground and through the pipes themselves "Although these stink pipes are nowadays "useless" this work aims to reveal them as poles of sound, or as singing flutes. "RADIOPHRENIA is a temporary art radio station broadcasting intermittently from the Centre for Contemporary Arts in Glasgow. The broadcast schedule includes a series of 14 newly commissioned radio works, 13 Live-to-Air performances as well as live studio shows, screenings, shorts and pre-recorded features. As in previous years the majority of the programme will be made up from selections submitted to an international open call for sound art and radio works."

"Montefiore Hospital in the UK teamed up with ambient music artist Brian Eno in April 2013 to create a Quiet Room where patients can find relaxation and calm. Eno designed a light and sound installation for the room and for the reception area, including an original soundtrack of soothing instrumental tunes. Once the room has had a few inhabitants, there are plans to examine whether the patients who have sought solace there exhibit any beneficial physiological changes."

"krewe coumbite is an archive and remix process conducted by muthi reed. reed gathers and assembles media through sharing, relationship, deconstruction, making, sampling and mixing. Central to their process is the observance of Black sound, rituals and feelings. krewe coumbite is a study in dynamic being-ness (finesse, shape, free form and movement, ontology, ritual, vernacular) that is Blackness. Borrowing from the Black love strategies cultivated by maroons, rastas, social aid and pleasure clubs, mutual aid societies, movement organizers, the Black Arts Movement, Harlem Renaissance, urban rebels/rebellions of the 1960s, Jamaican Sound System, freestyle and hip hop culture of the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, krewe coumbite engages local presence and the non conditions of space through occupying publics, interior time, light and sound projections, convergence and soul culture."

"On a muggy August evening on Randalls Island, I stood in a field of Honda Odysseys and CR-Vs, tricked out with towering rows of tweeters and subwoofers. Speakers were affixed to the roofs or lined the trunks of the vehicles like light artillery, painted in canary yellows, blood reds and indigo blues."

"Music for a Changing Tide was written for the Mediate Art Group new media biennale: Soundwave. This event will take place at Ocean Beach on July 27th as part of this festival. More info here: me-di-ate.net/ For this event, the audience will download this piece of music and put it on their iPod or other portable listening device and gather at Ocean Beach, San Francisco. Evans will then give the cue for everyone to press play and participants will sit back and observe while listening. The music is written to trace the changing of water movement and changing of light in the evening as the tidal change is observed. Intermingled with the music is a series of field recordings - the roar of Ocean Beach from a distance, airplanes combined with discreet sounds of barnacles, mussels and other intertidal creatures shifting and clicking at low tide, and water bumping rocks around as the tide slowly arises. In all - a site-specific sound and music event designed to allow participants to feel a greater sense of place and awareness of the moment and of our ever-shifting landscape."
