    So this web site is a really fantastic way to teach critical reading skills. It appears to be a very real web site to teach about explorers. In actuality, it's a trick. The biographies of the explorers are full of misinformation, like one explorer inventing the cell phone and another having dreams of being an Olympic athlete. It's a fun and interesting way to teach students not to always go with the first thing that they see and not to believe everything they see on the internet.

      I would use this site for an indepth study of the Maine incident leading to the start of the Spanish American War. Also it includes a comparison of the Maine disaster and the World Trade Center attack that might prove interesting to broach as a topic of discussion.

      This site contains a lot of information, which would no doubt be useful to social studies teachers. It contains various links, a good bibliography and other items of interest. Of particular value would be the bibliography which would allow for a more indepth examination of the topic.

      "American Journey", has a link to the dates of Tocqueville's trip to the States. Some of the dates are hyperlinked to his actual journal entries. Very simple and student friendly.

      "Democracy in America Teaching Modules" links to C-SPANs Tocqueville lesson plans which are really just lesson plan ideas that we could develop as teachers. There are some good quotes in some of them but mostly they seem to just tell us what other (primary) sources to read.

      "Journal Entries From Tocqueville's Trip" has a hyperlinked map that you can click on to see his journal entries in any specific state. This might be great if you were having different student groups talk about different areas during the antebellum period. Just a resource.
