Mafia tambang di Indonesia beberapa tahun terakhir ini menjadi momok bagi para investor di Indonesia. Pasalnya, baru-baru ini muncul beberapa investor tambang batubara di Sumatera Selatan (Sumsel) yang mengeluhkan aksi pengambilalihan secara paksa oleh oknum mafia tambang di wilayah tersebut. Bahkan, aksi mafia tambang di Sumatera Selatan (Sumsel) diduga menggunakan perangkat negara seperti aparat penegak hukum untuk mengintimidasi para investor untuk melepas kepemilikan tambang hingga mengalami kerugian miliaran rupiah. Menyikapi hal tersebut Direktur Eksekutif Center of Reform on Economic (CORE) Indonesia Mohammad Faisal menilai jika kasus mafia tambang ini memang secara tradisi sudah terjadi sekian lama di Indonesia, khususnya di Sumsel. "Praktik-praktiknya memang banyak mengindikasikan atau seringkali diwarnai dengan pengaruh dari shadow government, kemudian ada praktik-praktik ilegal yang sering kali merugikan bagi masyarakat sekitar dan juga bagi lingkungan," kata dia di Jakarta, Rabu 4 Mei 2022. Parahnya, kata dia, praktik tersebut seringkali tak hanya melibatkan oknum penegak hukum atau aparat hukum, tapi sampai juga kepada oknum daripada pemerintah, oknum penguasa yang tentu saja bekerjasama dengan pihak yang ingin menguasai tambang tersebut secara ilegal. "Seperti yang saya sebutkan, shadow government sebetulnya adalah di luar pemerintahan tapi memiliki pengaruh dari sisi kemampuan modal capital mereka, yaitu pihak yang ingin menguasai tambang-tambang terutama yang di daerah-daerah," katanya. Untuk itu, Faisal pun setuju jika KPK dan Polri harus turun sampai ke praktik mafia tambang. "Saya rasa setuju kalau kemudian KPK dan Polri memang mesti harus turun sampai ke bawah, sampai ke praktik-praktik sektor pertambangan ini, karena itu masih marak sampai sekarang," lanjutnya. Faisal pun meyakini, terkait dengan dugaan para mafia tambang yang support atau mendukung dalam kampanye Pilpres. "Seringkali begitu (mafia tambang support dana Pilpres)," kata dia.
