Schools that utilize educational technology effectively do so in a strategic way.  A strategic methodology promotes sustainability, or long term use, where a deep understanding of how the technology supports learning can develop, further leading to even more effective application.

I like "Deeper Learning" as a way to convey both the acquisition of knowledge and the transference/application of knowledge along with developing skills employers find valuable -- collaboration, communications and critical thinking.

Today's educators need to be connected -- that means they need to embrace social media along with utilizing online resources -- designing ways to integrate smart phones and iPads, along with laptops.

PLNs are a powerful change agent. And in today’s world an online professional learning network is indispensable.

The first automobiles were really horseless carriages, designed on the same frame as a horse-drawn carriage and with power defined in horsepower. The capabilities of these early contraptions were limited, and the infrastructure to support this new form of mobility was slow to develop as the early car owners rattled across the ruts and sank into the mud of unpaved and poorly maintained roads. These days, our society is built around the mobility provided by today's automobiles, and we are seeking to expand the infrastructure to accommodate battery-powered vehicles. How close is this analogy to the early stages of experimenting with cyberspace? I think the two stories are very similar, and I look forward to the day when the ruts in the cyberspace highway have been smoothed for a true community of learners to improve our world.

A major shift in the force of education has emerged as teachers have become self-directed, independent designers of their own learning.

My professional development occurs every day,

1. Professional Development (PD) is the most important.

2. Modeling is very important because teachers can see how technology is a tool and that the real ‘meat’ is the content

While we all need to be mindful of our dependence on technology, and on some of the negative impacts it can have on brain development when used improperly or in excess, the value of technology still exists in any mindful classroom environment. The key is to find a balance between using technology to enhance learning and providing students with the inner tools needed to calm their minds in a very fast pace world.

We have to “re-train ourselves to become comfortable with sustaining our attention on a single goal and for young people, who may have never developed this skill, to learn the value and to appreciate the value and to even feel the value of sustained attention.”
