This inflammation is necessary to remove the harmful stimuli and begin the healing process.Without inflammation the body does not heal on its own. Acute inflammation increases blood flow to important areas, plasma and white blood cells to heal injured tissue. Acute inflammation is accompanied these signs, pain, heat, redness, swelling, and sometimes loss of function. Prolonged or chronic inflammation is when an injury or infection persists for a longer period of time.
