The Swiss style isn't actually "Swiss." It refers to a global movement towards simplified, structured design, evident in both composition/layout and type. This distinctively bold approach can be seen everywhere - just keep your eyes open the next time you flip through a magazine or walk through the Eaton Centre.

Here is a graphic that captures a visual history of scrollbars from 1981 to the present. I point out the trend towards making the scrollbar less and less noticeable, with fewer graphical details to signal to users its function given its progressive ubiquity. The scrollbar is the visual equivalent of "More informaiton, please!"

I love info graphics. This one is interesting (ex. it points out that men are usually early adopters of technology, but 79% of Pinterest users are female), but definitely leaves me with some questions. Check it out.

Helvetica the movie is a documentary about typography, graphic design, and visual culture. It discusses how a sans serif typeface created in the 1950s has become one of the most widely used, yet, for the unassuming, least noticed in the world.
