Catfish - A Documentary - 0 views

A very interesting movie that deals with anonymity on the internet. 2 filmakers look at a friendship formed online between an artist and a small-town family. I really liked the documentary!

The filmmakers of this documentary have come under a lot of fire as to whether or not the film was staged. After reflecting it does seem coincidental that so much of this key points of the storyline are caught on tape. However, staged or not it really makes you question who you might be talking to on the internet.

This is a documentary and brief article about some of the dangers of sharing personal information on social media. I haven't watched it yet, but I think it looks pretty relevant to what we discussed in class on Monday, so it is on my "to do" list

I am not pushing either side of this argument but I thought this documentary did a really good job of illustrating Baym's notion of how there is a discourse of fear surrounding technology.

Beware of Images - 0 views

I haven't seen this film, but it seems like  it is a great take on the intersection between semiotics, and the coercive aspects of visual culture! From reading the description it might attempt to tackle some of the issues we've been focusing on in all three core courses. "BEWARE OF IMAGES is a feature-length, animated documentary about the history of visual representation. The movie explores the intricate relationship between the technology, regulation and social effects of mass media. "
