The Robotics & Mechanisms Laboratory at Virginia Tech is a facility for graduate and undergraduate robotics research and education with an emphasis on studying novel mobile robot locomotion strategies. Our research interests are in the area of Robot Locomotion and Manipulation, Kinematics and Mechanisms, and Autonomous Systems.

Beginning in Fall 2014, the College of Engineering will offer an M.S. and PhD. in Robotics. The proposed program will be part of an interdisciplinary effort to bring together the many disciplines that contribute to research on robotics. Robotics is the design, creation, analysis, and use of embodied computational systems that interact with the physical and human environment.

Ongoing research keeps WPI at the forefront of robotics engineering advances. Focus areas include human-robot interaction, artificial intelligence, medical robotics, kinematics and control systems, sensors, manipulation and navigation, and more.

hiDOF seeks to solve challenging problems in robotics, 3D computer vision, sensor processing, motion control, and motion planning spaces.
